I don't know why I keep doing this......(Friday Recap)

Activity Points Earned (Week): 21 (Goal is 25)
Activity Points Remaining (Week): 0 (Swapped 6 for bonus points on Tuesday)
*I swap earned Activity Points for Bonus Points first before I start using my actual bonus points.

So I used up 20 bonus/activity points on Friday.  Not too terrible but that Chinese food while delicious always makes me super tired!!  Are you sure they don't use MSG? LOL  I passed out on my bed laying sideways with my work clothes still on! Whoops! Missed my Day 2 workout....the unfortunate side of that is having to push week 7 out another day. UGH!  Oh well it was my own fault.  Drink lots of water today w/ a little extra fiber tossed in and we are good!

I hope you have a wonderful New Years and that you set some reasonable goals for yourself in 2012!  Make this year about YOU!  I know I will be!

Here's to a great end to 2011 and wishing you all the best in the year to come!!  Until then kids....

Beginners Yoga....Ma'am can you slow down for a minute?

Ok so for Christmas Mac got me a Beginners Yoga DVD set (thank you!) because I've been hollerin' that I want to start getting into Yoga.  I mean Colene got all thin doing it, maybe it can add to my insanity workouts....certainly can't hurt, right?  More details to follow...but as usual we interrupt this program for a recap:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage Breakfast Bowl & Banana (6pts)
Snack: Pear (0pts)
Lunch: Tuscan Chicken Salad - Life Cafe w/ WW Yogurt (12pts)
Snack: Special K Bar (2pts)
Dinner: Spaghetti w/ extra lean ground turkey marinara and a roll (18pts)
Snack: Protein Brownie (post workout) -
Extra Bite: Banana (0pts)

Daily Points Allowance: 42
Total Points Used: 38
Points Remaining: 4
Bonus Points Allowed (Week): 49*
Used (Today): 0
Bonus Points Remaining (Week): 49
Activity Points Earned (Today): 6
Activity Points Used (Today): 0
Activity Points Earned (Week): 21 (Goal is 25)
Activity Points Remaining (Week): 15 (Swapped 6 for bonus points on Tuesday)
*I swap earned Activity Points for Bonus Points first before I start using my actual bonus points.

A quick note about my food intake, as you can see I did not allocate any points for my protein brownie.  This is like the Muscle Milk drink I sometimes take post workout.  I don't log points for these because they are a necessary part of my workout recovery and I refuse to allocate any points to something I need vs. a "luxury".

My workout today comes from Week 7 Day 1 of Inferno Standard.  After a 21 minute cardio start we begin with jump squats (my least favorite) followed by dumbbell squats and then regular squats, repeat 3 times (10, 10, 8 reps)  Then alternating lunges x 3 sets of 10, 10, 8 reps using 2 different weight sets, ending with a shoulder overhaul (shoulder press, backwards arm circles, lateral raises and shrugs).  Finishing up with Abs and plank elbow w/ leg raise, bicycles and standard crunches w/ a exercise ball.  Overall a decent workout.  I hate leg days...just sayin.

So back to the Yoga DVD experience.  I put in the DVD having no clue how long each segment is (turns out they are about 20 minutes each) and I start the first segment.  Now when you read the label it says "BEGINNERS"...this to me says they should be taking it slowly through each pose, repeating and making sure you know what you are doing.  Yeah, not so much.  Apparently even as a beginner you should have a working knowledge of the basics. UGH!  This lady was just flowing on through the poses like I know what I'm doing (remembers Dancing w/ the Stars DVD...oh lawd), "breathe in, and exhale, push down, breath in, exhale, downward dog, inhale, hold it, knee forward, cobra, exhale, left leg straight, proud warrior, arms up, inhale head back, feel the stretch, cat and cow, exhale and we're done!"  Um ma'am, could you slow down for a minute?  I can't even remember when I'm supposed to exhale....goodness!  Now she was kind enough to state at the end of the segment "you will get better with repetition"...thank the good Lord it's a DVD where we have rewind....20 minutes later.  And to boot, WW only gives you 1 Activity point for 20 minutes of Yoga....really?  I was sweating after that bit and I get 1 point....LAME!

Anyway, it was a good day and I have fully recovered (weight wise) from my Christmas binge and all should be well on weigh-in day next week!  Tomorrow is Day 2 of Week 7 as I continue my 6 day blitz to stay on plan.  I really can't wait for Week 9...it's an active rest week...praise be to God, halleloo!  Until then kids...

A Message From Your Team at Weight Watchers.....

So today was weigh-in day (ok technically Monday was, but I needed to do some detox first! LOL)  Here are the results:

Starting Weight on WW: 209.0lbs
Today's Weight: 199.2lbs
Difference: -9.8lbs

So I updated this on my WW app and I get the following message:

"You gained a bit this week.  It's ok gaining is part of the process!  Look back over your week and find out what you can improve upon this week."

Something to that effect....but it's nice to know that gaining is part of the process. LOL.  One thing I am confused about...I gained a pound but they increased my daily target by 1 point!   Wait...if I gained, shouldn't I get lower points or stay the same?  Confusing but ok.

I am happy to say that I am back on the wagon and hitting it full force now!  I have completed Week 6 of Inferno Standard and will start Week 7 tomorrow.  I decided to continue my week 6 workouts since I only had 2 remaining vs. starting the week over and being behind!  I feel good about that decision.  Ran another 3 miles this evening and burned almost 500 calories....it was a good run!

No food recap today I apologize but I did stay on plan with all of my meals!  Everything should get back to normal tomorrow.  I have a lot going on in my mind at the moment and can't really focus to well.  Stay tuned for normalcy coming soon! :-)

Until then kids...

Oh Christmas....what have you done?

Well it is back to the grind and back to reality this week folks!  I had a truly fantastic holiday with my family and enjoyed SOOOOO much great food!  Christmas really is not the time to be watching your figure. LOL.  I had everything from Brisket to Sausage Balls to cheesecake to fudge to chicken fingers to cake and back again....oh my stars!  It was delicious and I have 0 regrets.  Instead of worrying about how well I didn't do, I am looking at the week ahead and how to recover and get back in the zone!

I jumped on the scale this morning and thought "Oh Christmas, what have you done to me!!?"  Not a pretty sight I can assure you.  Albeit the majority of it is water retention from the hoards of sodium I took in this weekend (a lot of beef jerky! LOL)  So today is all about drinking water, water, water!!!  I'll be back in the gym this evening running myself to death to burn some of these excess calories off and get back on track!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed yourself a little or a lot!  Remember, life isn't about what you do the minority of the time, it's about what you do the MAJORITY of the time!  One weekend of indulgence isn't going to de-rail my whole plan!  It's about determination and the discipline to keep going, always look forward never look back.

Stay tuned for a complete update after today.  Until then kids...

And now it's time for a break.....For Christmas!!!

Just a quick FYI - I will not be updating my blog for the next couple of days due to the holiday season!  Fear not my faithful following (cuz there are so many! LOL) I will catch you up on all the holiday comings and goings, doings and undoings on Monday!

If you recall the Holidays for me are a free zone....points free and guilt free (honteee)! LOL.  I refuse to feel bad for enjoying the holidays.  As always MODERATION is the key and avoiding over indulgence!  I've worked hard the past several weeks and I plan on eating my "just desserts"! :-)

I wish each of you a VERY Merry Christmas, or whatever you may or may not celebrate and a most Happy New Year!!

See you all on Monday!!!!!  Until then kids....

Murder he wrote......Wednesday Recap (Day 38)

"I committed murder and I think I got away, I'm hiding at my mothers house come get me, right away, right away." (Macy Gray anyone?  Colmon or Colene?)  More details to come.  I finally decided to figure out what day we were on, not sure why I got off track with posting that but we are back on!!  Day 38!  Here's the recap...

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage Breakfast Bowl (6pts)
Snack: Apple (0pts)
Lunch: Jimmy Johns Beach Club (no mayo or cheese) w/ Chips (13pts)
Snack: None
Dinner: Turkey Burger w/ Fat Free Cheese & Turkey Bacon and (baked) Steak Fries (11pts)
Snack: Muscle Milk - Post workout -

Daily Points Allowance: 41
Total Points Used: 30
Points Remaining: 11
Bonus Points Allowed (Week): 49*
Used (Today): 0
Bonus Points Remaining (Week): 49
Activity Points Earned (Today): 10
Activity Points Used (Today): 8 (Swapped for Bonus Point deficit)
Activity Points Earned (Week): 10 (Goal is 25)
*I swap earned Activity Points for Bonus Points first before I start using my actual bonus points

So let's talk about the blog title for a moment.  When I say that I committed murder, what I mean to say is Travis Steffan from Workout Box committed murder, ON MY LEGS!  Today was Week 6 Day 1 of Inferno Standard and the first time that they have increased my # of sets from 3 to 4! OH MY STARS!  I had to do 4 sets of Jump Squats w/dumbbells, standard squats w/dumbbells and regular squats.  The rep counts were 12, 10, 10, 8 for the Jump Squats and Dumbbell Squats and 18 for all four sets of standard squats.  This was followed by 4 sets of alternating lunges w/dumbbells in rep counts of 12,10,10,8 done w/ two weight sets.  My legs were DEAD at the end of this workout, I could barely make it down the stairs of the gym to go home!!  Then of course they had me doing plank elbow raises with leg lifts during abs.  I mean I honestly think Travis is INSANE.  How do you expect me to run 2 miles for cardio, kill my legs with squats and lunges and then have any amount of energy left to do LEG LIFTS while holding my entire weight up by my elbow???  30 seconds of Bicycle Crunches and 2 minutes 20 Seconds of standard crunches over a medicine ball rounded out Day 1.

If I learned anything from this workout it was that you cannot get results from doing nothing.  Being one of the people who used to sit around and complain about being fat and yo-yo dieting and pretending like I was trying but never seeing real results I can say that you have to get up off the couch, put the fork down and workout!  I am a firm believer in Weight Watchers because it keeps my diet in check and I know I have been successful with it.  But WW alone won't give you the body you want, for those results you have to work for it and that means getting into a gym or doing some type of hardcore home program.  Having a structured workout each day has really helped me improve my effectiveness at the gym.  I used to go and run a mile on the treadmill and think I did something.  Don't get me wrong....running for a mile is no quick task and is DEFINITELY better than not doing anything!  But being able to go to the gym and follow a routine and getting to learn which machines and exercises work which muscles has been a great learning experience for me and the real reason behind my success so far.  So yes, while I will continue to gripe and complain about the intensity and at times INSANITY of my workouts from Workout Box, I know that at the end of the day when I step on that scale each Monday and keep seeing a loss, it's working!

I also want to thank everyone who is following my blog.  My blog has reached over 700 views since I began just 38 days ago!  Thank you guys so much for your motivation and encouragement and the comments!  I apparently have a small following in Russia and Germany! LOL.  I've had over 100 views from people there as well, so I guess you could say I am world renowned?! :-)

It definitely helped my mood and motivation level to get back in the gym yesterday and I am looking forward to getting in again this evening!!!  Until then kids...

'Tis the season.....not feeling it! (Tuesday Recap)

I'm kind of in a blah mood today and totally not into the Holiday season at all!  I'm not really feeling my workouts either...I've delayed working out the past two days (mainly due to time constraints) but a lack of motivation as well!  I've got 4 days left to fit in 4 days!  Better get on it....but I need serious motivation! (Sigh)  Here's Tuesdays recap:

Lunch: Healthy Choice Balsamic Chicken (7pts)

Clearly I need to get on the Activity bandwagon or I'm going to get behind!  Anyone have any motivation? It should motivate me that I fit right into a medium size polo shirt this morning, but I didn't have time to check myself out before I left the house in a rush.  I took off my jacket at work and I look pretty decent! :-)

I've got more shopping to do, meeting with a friend tonight, workouts OH MY!  There really isn't enough time in the day!!  Sorry so short but there isn't a lot to report and I'm kind of blah today so I apologize.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better!  Until then kids...

Just another manic Monday & Results.....(80's anyone?)

Well it wasn't my fun-day but it was Monday.  Here's a recap:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage Bowl w/ Banana (6pts)
Snack: Special K Bar (2pts)
Lunch: Healthy Choice Pineapple Chicken (8pts)
Snack: Blackberries w/ Splenda (0pts)
Dinner: Tip Steak w/ Mashed Potatoes & Mac and cheese (20pts)
Snack: Slice of Yule Log Cake (8pts)

Activity Points Earned (Today): 0
Activity Points Used (Today): 0
Activity Points Earned (Week): 0 (Goal is 25)
*I swap earned Activity Points for Bonus Points first before I start using my actual bonus points

Mac made a nice dinner last night and bought a Yule Log cake for dessert....yummy!  Only had to cut into 3 of my bonus points to fit it in! :-)  No workout on Monday, I took a break after I ended Week 5 on Sunday.

Today was WEIGH-IN DAY however and I am very happy to give you the results!

Starting Weight on WW: 209.0lbs
Monday's Weight: 198.2lbs
Difference: -10.8lbs
Starting Weight (Blog): 205.6lbs
Difference: -7.4lbs

I lost 2.8lbs this past week!  I finally broke the 200lb mark and I am SO excited!!  Now what's ironic...when I first set up Weight Watchers (WW) it gave me my first goal weight of 198.6lbs, but I changed it to 198.0lbs so I had an even number to hit.  So Monday when I got on the scale and saw 198.2lbs you can imagine my dismay....LOL.  Had I kept it at 198.6lbs I would have hit my first goal weight! UGH!  Oh well.  I reset all of my goals on WW and began again.  They lowered my daily point target to 41 also.

My new goal weight is 178lbs which is a 10% or 20lb loss.  That would put me at a total of 31lbs lost if I hit that goal so cross your fingers!!!!

Is anyone ready for Christmas?  I still gotta go shopping and fit in my workout this evening!!!  It's gonna be busy!! Until then kids...

What a fun two days.  Nothing actually exciting, worked both days.  Gorgeous weather today!!  Hit the gym to finish off Week 5 Day 4!  I normally do not workout on Sundays (for both physical and religious reasons) but poor planning and a lack of sleep on my part left me in a bind to keep on schedule.  Had a great workout, ran 3 miles and burned almost 500 calories.  Took a slower approach this time and completed it in 34 minutes.  The remainder of the workout was legs, biceps, triceps and yes Abs!

Today they introduced the "Russian Twist" which is where you take a weighted medicine ball, sit up, feet off the floor and twist your torso from left to right in opposition of the ball....um...yeah not so much.  Do I look like Chubby Checker? (don't answer that!)  Then they had me doing "V" situps!  Huh?  I watched the video for this online first and I thought....is this a joke?  I mean I coulda had a V-8...Really though!!  This is where you lay back, arms stretched out and sit up by bringing your arms and legs together, making your body form a "V" shape while contracting your abs.  All I can say is..thank goodness it was only for 25 seconds....whew!!  Then a finale of 120 seconds of crunches....I better have a 6 pack when this is over...I'm just sayin....

So I signed up for my first 5K in April.  A best gal pal of mine convinced me to sign up with her to motivate both of us...she of course is already fit as you can be, but is always pushing herself to stay in shape and me...well you already know my story, and if you don't....go back to "Day 1" on my blog and catch up! LOL.  Luckily my cardio sections are already 3 miles....I just need to hone in the skills to keep up pace and get my endurance in check!  I am confident I'll be ready by then!!

Perfect time for a story.....(not necessarily about weight loss, but on topic w/ my 5k challenge)

This same gal pal along with her other half, Mac and myself and some other friends went on vacay to Gulf Shores a few years back.  We had the time of our lives!!  One day we decided to head over to the "touristy" part of town and see what we could get into.  Now keep in mind the night before we had been up pretty late partaking in libations and spirits quite heavily (another reason I no longer drink!)  We decide to have lunch at a popular spot called "The Hangout".  Being somewhat hungover we ordered the greasiest food we could, including fried pickles!  We gorged ourselves on food and drink.  That day at The Hangout incidentally there was a radio station set up and holding all sorts of contests, one of which was a "Sack Race"....well my gal pal signed up for it first and then taunted me enough to go sign up too....if for nothing else other than the free t-shirt!  Another point of interest, it was about 115 degrees that day and this was an outdoor race!  Let's do the math real quick here.....late night of drinking + heavy, greasy lunch + 115 degrees + sack race = NO GOOD!  I digress.....she and I end up in the same starting race....as we stand there in the sweltering heat in our BURLAP sacks, just before the announcer says "GO"...she leans over to me and says "I feel like I'm going to throw up"....."GO!!!!" and we are off!!!  For a second I wonder if she really will vomit...but my mind is caught up in winning the race....I leap off through the sand hoping she will be ok and hop my way to victory!  I don't think she even left the finish line! LOL.  I made it through 2 other rounds and finished 3rd overall and all I got was a lousy t-shirt! LOL.  Good times and great memories though!!!

Well that's all I have for now...this week begins Week 6 and then of course Christmas....better save those bonus and activity points kids....we are gonna need them for the weekend!!!  Until then kids....

To Use or Not to Use....That is the question! (Friday Recap)

I would say that I was glad it was Friday but I'm still in my work week, so it doesn't make a difference to me!  But I am glad for the weekend and with my grocery shopping and house cleaning out of the way already I can focus on Christmas shopping and relaxing!!!  Here's the recap:

Breakfast: Muscle Milk -
Snack: Special K Bar (2pts)
Lunch: Jimmy Johns Turkey & Ham no mayo or cheese w/ chips (12pts)
Snack: WW Yogurt - Mixed Berry (2pts)
Dinner: Bandanas BBQ - Beef & Pork Platter w/ baked beans and coleslaw, garlic toast and donut holes for desert (49pts)
Snack: Jell-O pudding (Post Workout) (2pts)

Daily Points Allowance: 42
Total Points Used: 42
Points Remaining: 0
Bonus Points Allowed (Week): 49*
Used (Today): 10
Bonus Points Remaining (Week): 39
Activity Points Earned (Today): 6
Activity Points Used (Today): 15
Activity Points Earned (Week): 20 (Goal is 25)
Activity Points Remaining (Week): 0
*I swap earned Activity Points for Bonus Points first before I start using my actual bonus points

So the question on the table is whether or not it's wise to use the bonus points on the WW program.  I say, why not?  That's what they are there for and typically I only use a few each week.  So last night when I was deciding on dinner I kept that in mind and ending up going with Bandanas BBQ.  Now for those of you who have never heard of Bandanas, it is quite tasty and their garlic bread is amazing!  Which is the exact point that this meal went from ok to WOAH! LOL.  The carbs are really what got me here, that and the protein.  I admit that I get a little frustrated with WW that protein is so factored into the points, I mean whoever got fat eating protein?  But I get it, it's a formula and everything is accounted for.  So the garlic bread and oh yeah, the fried donut holes! Whoops!  But they are SOOOOOOO good!  Needless to say the meal itself was delicious and as indulgent as it was it only cost me 49 points....I know it SOUNDS like a lot...but for me it was worth it!  I did workout afterwards so I soaked up some of the damage with activity points! LOL.  I still have 39 bonus points remaining and 1 more workout to complete which will likely give me around 6-7 more activity points, so no worries.

Friday's workout was only to burn 300 calories.  I did 25 minutes on the elliptical trainer and bested the guidelines by burning 310! LOL.

It's a nice day outside, despite being cold, but I'm inside at work where it is warm and just finished baking some peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies. (Stares at banana)  This may be a long day.....LOL.  Today's workout will be Week 5 Day 4 and we will say goodbye to Week 5....that kind of went by fast!  Until then kids.....

Honey...I shrunk my....stomach! (Thursday Recap)

So apparently this is becoming a habit of posting recaps the day AFTER. UGH!  My days just get away from me and I fall asleep before I get to blog.  But I am happy that I am keeping up daily updates, that is very important to my success and my goal!  Here's the recap for Thursday:

Breakfast: 2 Eggo Nutrigrain Whole Wheat Waffles w/ Splenda (4pts)
Snack: Apple (0pts)
Lunch: Smart Ones 3 Cheese Ziti (8pts)
Snack: Special K Bar (2pts)
Dinner: BAKED (not fried) Tyson Chicken Fingers w/ Steak Fries (16pts)
Snack: None

Daily Points Allowance: 42
Total Points Used: 30

Bonus Points Allowed (Week): 49*

Bonus Points Remaining (Week): 49
Activity Points Earned (Today): 0

Activity Points Remaining (Week): 9
*I swap earned Activity Points for Bonus Points first before I start using my actual bonus points

I was glad to get back into the breakfast/morning snack routine.  Two days of sleeping in and missing breakfast was enough for me.  I encourage you to ALWAYS find something to eat for breakfast, the healthier the better.  It jump starts your body and metabolism and gets your system burning those calories!  I was amazed to see I had 12 points left over yesterday...those Tyson Chicken strips were only 5 points for 2 and I had 5! LOL.  The steak fries are only 3 points for 15....HIGHLY recommend...if you bake them, you still get crispy fries but barely any points!  I did skip the workout again, not really intending to but my night got away from me and it was much to late to venture out, since I'm trying to get workouts done early and get back on a regular sleep pattern.  I'll easily finish up Week 5 today and tomorrow however with a rest day on Sunday before Week 6, no worries friends!  I actually kind of like breaking it up, getting in some final workouts right before weigh-in day.  I've noticed that the Tuesday following weigh-in day my weight is always lower than my weigh-in day # because I workout on Monday's but not on Sundays and usually not Saturdays, so if I sneak in a workout on Saturday, I might see some lower #'s on the scale on weigh-in day! (Just a theory!)

So I got dressed this morning and for the first time I noticed a big difference in how I looked in my clothes.  I could actually SEE my belt as my stomach was no longer hanging over my pants!  My love handles (while still there) seem to be shrinking as well and when I turn to my profile view, I don't see a "gut" sticking out!  I felt...thin! (er)  Hear me when I say that I have a lot more work to do (like about 30lbs more work), but it's such an amazing feeling when you see that you are making progress and you look better, it makes you FEEL better about yourself!  It was definitely enough of a motivator for me to finish strong in Week 5 and get jacked up for Week 6!  In a sense.....I shrunk my stomach!!! :-)

So that is the deal so far, tonight will be my cardio night and I'm still torn on how I'm going to burn those 300 calories! LOL.  Swimming sounds nice, but I never feel like I worked out when I swim, even though I do laps (kind of) and it is a workout.  We shall see.  Until then kids....

So I previously promised you a story from the vaults and was having a difficult time remembering one that was entertaining, but after talking with my boss about some of our past gym follies I came up with a pretty good one!  So here you go...

This story goes back nearly 12 years (another story that Julie will appreciate).  When I first started working at the gym at the Chase Park Plaza I was totally new to fitness of any kind and pretty much learned everything as I went.  Julie was instrumental in teaching me how to use most of the equipment when I was training.  One of the most basic pieces of equipment is the treadmill, totally self explanatory and easy to use, right?  Well being new to working out sometimes even the most simple of concepts can be complex.  I began walking on the treadmill to warm up before my workout.  A nice even and steady pace.  I'm listening to my CD Walkman (that sounds SO ancient! LOL) and just getting lost in the music...this was back when all the house music and club mixes were the "in" thing.  I slowly begin to increase the speed in keeping with the tempo of the music.  Eventually I am running at a pretty good clip (probably 5-6mph) and feeling great.  After several minutes at this speed I need to take a quick breather, so I jump on either side of the belt so that I could rest. (Note: The treadmill belt is STILL running at 5-6mph)  As I catch my breath and prepare to get back on the treadmill, I take a drink of water and hit the next track on the CD.  Not really thinking about what I was doing (more caught up in the music) I step onto the treadmill....forgetting that it is still going at 5-6mph...well...as you can imagine I did not remain upright for long...as my other foot hit the moving belt, I was flung off the treadmill backwards and onto the floor.  OW!  A lady on the elliptical next to me came and shut off the treadmill and of course everyone was asking me if I was ok.  I was fine...the only thing that really got hurt was my dignity...I was very embarrassed!  Needless to say I was done with the treadmill at that point.  Ever since then I've always hit the "PAUSE" button on the treadmill BEFORE I step off the belt!

Ah the pains we endure trying to lose weight...what fun!  Well today will be Day 3 of Week 5...all I have to do is burn 300 calories...should be easy!  Until then kids...

I ran a 5k today....

Ok so the title is a LITTLE misleading, but true nonetheless.  A 5k run is 3 miles long and I ran for 3 miles today! (On the treadmill.)  I did it in only 25 minutes and burned 382 calories...let me tell you, I was one tired boy after that run, I got up to 8.1mph!  My shirt was soaked from sweat....oh my stars that was intense!  Here's the recap:

Breakfast: None
Snack: None
Lunch: Jimmy Johns Roast Beef & Turkey, no mayo or cheese w/ chips (15pts)
Snack: Special K Bar (2pts)
Dinner: Crazy Bowls & Wraps High Protein Bowl - Steak and Lobster Rangoon (13pts)

Today was Week 5 Day 2 of Inferno Standard.  I am very thankful for the change of pace and different exercises.  The increase of cardio is totally killer, but they tell me that this is the phase where I'll start seeing real results, so we shall see!  I know I repeat myself a million times but if you want to checkout what workout plan I am following, head over to www.workoutbox.com and check it out!  I feel like I get to go the gym and actually workout instead of go, run on the treadmill for a few minutes, push some weights around and leave.  Instead when I am done, I feel like I accomplished something, I conquer each workout and it feels good!  For pennies a day you can get a customized workout plan and access to professional guidance and advice from real trainers!  I highly reccommend it.  Even if you don't want to go the gym, they have home programs you can do too!  It's great!

I've been reading through my past blogs and realize that I haven't entertained you all with a story for quite some time.  While I am much to tired this evening to get into one, I will try and deliver tomorrow and find one from the vaults that will make you smile!  At my expense of course! :-)  Until then kids...

Jump Squats w/ Dumbells and Chocolate Pie....Seriously!?

So I've made a determination to start working out a little earlier than I usually do.  Wrapping up a workout at 1230am and not getting to bed until 2am is for the birds and I'm over it!  Going forward I am going to make every effort to get to the gym by 9pm, so I am done by 1030pm at the latest.  This morning I was so tired I overslept and could hardly get out of bed!  Here's the Monday recap:

Breakfast: Toasted bagel thin w/ cheese w/ banana (5pts)
Snack: Special K Bar (2pts)
Lunch: Healthy Choice Balsamic Chicken (4pts)
Snack: Mixed Fruit Cup
Dinner: Italian wedding soup w/ Penne Pasta (15pts)
Snack: Chocolate Pie (21pts) - I know!
Post Workout: Muscle Milk

This evening we had a delightful Italian Wedding Soup that Mac made from scratch and it was quite tasty.  My light meals throughout the day led me into a false sense of security and I allowed myself to have a piece of chocolate pie.....UGH! LOL.  The good news is I did not finish the piece that I served myself.  The overage was accounted for by the Activity Points I earned from my workout so it wasn't too terrible, but I am done with the pie. :-)  A quick note about the Post Workout Muscle Milk.....I am not going to track the points for those as I only have one or 2 per week but they are essential for post workout, especially after an intense leg workout to help my muscles recover.  They have a high amount of protein which jacks up the Points Value on WW, but since they are "good for me" I am not going to punish myself and deduct points from my day for drinking one.  Just so we're all on the same page! :-)

Monday I started Week 5 Day 1 of Inferno Standard from http://www.workoutbox.com/.  All I can say is.....INSANE!  They introduced "Jump Squats" w/ dumbells!  Basically you get into a squat position holding a dumbell in each hand and leap into the air and land back in the squat position!  Ok, so I decided to be brave and use 20lbs weights.  The jump squats weren't so terrible except the entire circuit set included 12 reps of Jump Squats, 12 Reps of Squats w/ dumbells and 15 reps of standard squats (no dumbell), repeat 3 times.  OH MY STARS!!  My poor hamstrings and quads were about to DIE!  Then they expect you to go right into alternating lunges w/ dumbells and my legs were so mad at me!  By the time I got to abs my legs felt like jelly!  Of course now they decide that I need to do Plank w/ leg raises on each side?  HUH?  Now I'll preface this with saying that I have been doing Plank Elbow for the past 4 weeks, and I can hang in for a cool 30-40 seconds on either side.  But when you decide to toss in a leg raise while trying to support your entire body weight on your elbow for 30 seconds.....after having murdered your legs with squats and lunges...it was a no go!  This was the first time I have ever done a modified version of an exercise.  I tried for several attempts to do leg raises while in plank position but kept falling over and it was seriously hurting my hips.  So instead I remained on my side and did leg lifts for the required time.  Perhaps over time I will build endurance for these but for now leg lifts will have to do!  All in all it was a good workout and weeks 5-8 promise to be even more intense....bring it!!

Yesterday was weigh-in day and I will tell you that I did NOT gain, but did NOT lose either.  I actually maintained, which is still a victory considering my weekend dietary choices.  I did get on the scale this morning and was happy with what I saw, but in keeping with the plan I'll stick with my numbers from yesterday at 201.0.  Maybe next Monday we'll see some suprising figures! :-)  Until then kids...

The wagon made a sharp turn and.......I fell off! (Saturday Recap)

Goodness me...the holidays are proving to be a busy time this year!  I am having issues finding time to update my blog each day, my apologies again!

So to recap Saturday and a (so far) for Sunday...

That weight loss wagon was going so fast that when it turned the corner onto Saturday I fell off!! :-)  It wasn't really my fault.  Yesterday we had our work Holiday Social for our residents AND Mac and I hosted the annual Christmas party for our friends at our house.  There was SO much good food going around there was no way I could pass it up!  I did try to be as conservative as possible and not get gluttonous, but I don't want to even try and calculate the point values! LOL.  Today is going to be a phase out day of last night (enjoying a few parting bites) before we go into damage control on Monday and start Week 5 Day 1 of Inferno Standard from http://www.workoutbox.com/.  I shouldn't have any other hurdles "food wise" until Christmas weekend.

Overall it was a great time at both events and I have 0 regrets about my choices.  There is no use in feeling guilty or beating myself up, you just pick up, get back on the wagon and move forward on Monday.  Unfortunately it is weigh-in day tomorrow and I am not expecting any sort of loss.  If I do manage to pull one out, I will be ASTOUNDED!

Did you read the new study they came out with recently?  They found that those who severely restrict their carb intake for 2 days per week and then ate reasonably for the other 5 days, lost more weight over time than those who tried calorie restricted diets 7 days a week.  An interesting thought.  I love my WW program however so I won't be trying it, but thought I'd pass it on if anyone wanted to look it up and see what it was all about.  I always say anything is worth trying once, twice if it works! :-)

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and that you didn't over indulge too terribly much!  For those who stayed on track...kudos to you, but you probably didn't have chocolate pie and banana pudding in your fridge to tempt you! :-)  Tomorrow begins the recovery!  Until then kids....

Late Night Gym Sessions.....(Friday Recap)

Friday was a pretty decent day for the diet, I had a few temptations but trying to recover from my 2 day "slip" I resisted and stuck to my plan.  Here's the recap:

Breakfast; Turkey Bacon & Cheese on Bagel Thin & Banana (8pts)
Snack: Apple (0pts)
Lunch: Healthy Choice Orange Chicken (6pts)
Snack: WW Yogurt w/ Blackberries (2pts)
Dinner: Grilled Chicken Pesto on Ciabatta & Lays Chips (19pts)
Snack: None

Activity Points Remaining (Week): 2

Friday evening we had a great deal of errands to run with gifts to buy and food to purchase and house cleaning....it was difficult to find time to get in my final workout for the week.  But you know me, determined to keep going, so at 11:15pm I got dressed and made my way to the gym for a late night workout.  This is even later than my normal time and I didn't finish until nearly 1am!  While I was running on the treadmill (2 steps forward 1 step back) I had 28 minutes to complete and not even 3 minutes in I felt like getting off and skipping out.  But I kept telling myself, this is the LAST workout of Week 4....YOU CAN DO IT!!  So onward I pressed, running my little legs off on the treadmill for a full 28 minutes and moving on to weights.  The workout was all about legs and biceps.  Biceps are surprisingly my MOST favorite muscle to work out.  I don't mind doing bicep exercises.  Then of course there were abs which I REALLY did almost skip, but then remembered my "love" handles and decided to hit it hard and finish strong.  So that was that...Day 4 Week 4 of Inferno Standard is done!!!  The next phase is weeks 5-8 and from what I've been told they are killer.  I peeked at the workouts and I got tired just reading them. LOL.

On the way home I was thinking....working out this hard 4 days a week is difficult and it's very easy to get discouraged and demotivated to keep it up.  I have to keep telling myself that I only have 22 more weeks of Inferno to go and at the end of that 22 weeks I will look and feel AMAZING.  So as hard as it is or as much as I do not want to do it, I have to continue and will continue.  Bring on the next 4 weeks!!  I'm ready!

Weigh in day is coming up on Monday....anyone nervous? LOL.  I have 2 days off from the gym and I am so glad because my muscles can't take anymore this week! :-)  We are having our work holiday social for our residents this evening and a gathering at our house as well.....I will definitely try to keep MODERATION in mind, but I am almost CERTAIN we will deplete the remaining bonus points I have before the evening is out! Wish me luck!!  Until then kids....

Holiday Socials, Training and Workouts...OH MY!

So my apologies to the group for not posting last night. I had a work function to attend, the St. Louis Apartment Association Holiday Social.  It was quite fun meeting some new people from our corporate office and seeing some already familiar faces, a good time overall.  Today I had new hire orientation all day, and that was quite interesting.  8 hours of benefits, policies and customer service training....UGH! LOL.

With that said, I have a few admissions!  I will not be logging my points for food from yesterday OR today, but with good cause.  Not because I am ashamed of what I ate and am trying to hide it from anyone, mainly because I have no clue what the point values are for most of what I ate, and there were little tastes here and there of different things.  Here's an overall recap:

Yesterday:
Breakfast: 2 Eggo Nutrigrain Whole Wheat waffles and 2 Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage Patties (7pts)
Snack: Banana (0pts)
Lunch: Healthy Choice Chicken Marinara (7pts)
Snack: Special K Bar
Dinner: Some sort of stuffed beef roll, pulled pork and pasta con broccoli w/ roll.  Side salad and a bite size chocolate tart.
Snack: Slice of Tollhouse pie (more like a sliver)

Today: (I had 0 control over the choices for lunch, it was brought in and we did not have an option to leave....So I worked with what I had! LOL)
Breakfast: Banana, 2 donut holes, 1 bite size cherry tart and small slice of cinnamon roll
Lunch: 3 Slices of Dominoes Pizze (1 pepperoni, 1 Sausage, 1 Chicken)
Snack: Banana
Dinner: Hamburger Helper (w/ Lean Turkey instead of ground beef) and 2 pieces of french bread. (This meal is usually around 16-17pts)

I did workout both of these days.  Yesterday was Day 2 of Week 4 and today was Day 3 of Week 4.  Only 1 more day to go and week 4 will be FIN!!!  Today my workout was to burn 300 calories.  I thought I'd get crafty and avoid going to the gym by doing my PS3 Active 2 again......as soon as I hit 300 calories (310 to be exact) I clicked off that PS3! LOL.  That workout KICKED MY BUTT!!!  My legs feel like jelly!  Next time I'm going with leisure swimming! LOL.

I hopped on the scale yesterday for a sneak peek, I won't give you any details but I was happy with what I saw!  Let's pray my 2 days of abandonment don't wreck me.  In all fairness it was really only 2 meals that were terrible, the breakfast wasn't significant and the dinner I had tonight I eat during normal times within my daily points, so it was really only today's lunch and yesterdays dinner that I probably could have made a few more wise choices, but hey...I can't be perfect 100% of the time.  I'm trying very diligently and have been for several weeks now, that's all I ask of myself! :-)

That being said, I hope you have enjoyed my 2 day recap and again my apologies for the 1 day skip, I will work on being more disciplined with the blog each and every day!  I'd like to boost my stats a little and attract a few more viewers to the blog....any suggestions are appreciated!  Maybe soon I'll toss in a video blog! :-)  Until then kids...

Internet Crisis!! (It's all ok now...)

So instead of spending an hour at the gym this evening, I spent an hour on the phone with AT&T trying to figure out why all of my services stopped working all of a sudden.  After a long conversation with a rep and being transferred to his rep, an offer to wait 2 days for new equipment or 4 days for a tech....I'm up and running again. (Truth be told, I think I accidently pulled a wire I wasn't supposed to and thought I reconnected it, but not all the way....whoops!!  But don't tell anyone...LOL)  Here's a recap:

Breakfast: Banana (0pts)
Snack: Special K Bar (2pts)
Lunch: Penn Station Artichoke Sandwich w/o mayo (19pts) & fries (10pts)
Snack: None
Dinner: Smart Ones Flatbread Chicken Marinara (7pts)
Snack: 1 cup of Edy's No Sugar Added Fat Free Vanilla/Chocolate Swirl Frozen Yogurt w/ bananas (4pts)

Daily Points Allowance: 42
Total Points Used: 42
Points Remaining: 0
Bonus Points Allowed (Week): 49
Used (Today): 0
Bonus Points Remaining (Week): 49
Activity Points Earned (Today): 0
Activity Points Used (Today): 0
Activity Points Remaining (Week): 6

Whilst I enjoyed quite a tasty lunch at Penn Station, I played it smart by getting an Artichoke Sub w/ no mayo, substantially reducing the # of points a sandwich with meat and mayo would have cost me, leaving room for the yummie fries!  I inadvertently skipped breakfast.  I woke up super early to do some holiday shopping for the St. Patrick Center with my work peeps.  Our company adopted about 25 families and collected donations to purchase Christmas gifts for them this year, we gathered at Target this morning to do the shopping.  Two and a half hours later....WHEW!  Anyway, I grabbed a banana on the way out and when I arrived the options for breakfast were Starbucks and Starbucks....no bueno.  By the time we were finished it was nearly 11am and close to lunch, so I grabbed a Special K bar for a snack and called it a day.  Coupled with a pretty light dinner, I easily fit my points loaded lunch into the day w/o eating up my activity or bonus points, and had room for a lil ice cream snack this evening.

Alas, my internet issues delayed my trip to the gym so long that it was no longer a fruitful option (both motivationally and sleep wise).  The positive spin is that I have 4 days to fit in 3 workouts to finish out Week 4 so I am totally on target still, nobody panic! :-)

How is everyone out there doing......I hope well.  Tomorrow I hope it is warmer and no snow!  Until then kids...

The results are in....can you handle it? (Day 21)

Today was weigh in day and I know you are all on PINS AND NEEDLES waiting for the results, but first here's the recap:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausge D-Lite Breakfast Sandwich (English Muffin) w/ banana (6pts)
Snack: Apple (0pts)
Lunch: Jimmy Johns Tom Turkey w/ Dbl Turkey no may or cheese, add avocado spread and cucumbers (9pts)
Snack: Blackberries w/ Splenda (0pts)  Hot Chocolate (3pts)
Dinner: Turkey and provolone sandwich on honey wheat w/ reduced fat provolone and turkey bacon w/ tomato & Fat Free mayo and Lays BBQ Chips (13pts)
Snack: Muscle Milk Lite - Post Workout (5pts)
Bonus Bite: 1/2 Cup of Edy's Fat Free Frozen Vanilla/Chocolate Swirl Yogurt (2pts)

Daily Points Allowance: 42
Total Points Used: 37
Points Remaining: 5
Bonus Points Allowed (Week): 49
Used (Today): 0
Activity Points Earned: 6
Activity Points Used (Today): 0

Today was a good day with the diet.  I was so super stoked to find the Edy's Fat Free No Sugar Added Frozen Yogurt.  It is VERY flavorful and at only 2 points for 1/2 a cup, I can definitely find some new ways to eat this.  It makes for a great "bite" when you have a craving for something sweet or chocolatey minus all the guilt afterward!

So today was weigh in day and as I mentioned I was hoping for 1-2lbs lost this week.  Here are the results:

Starting Weight (on WW): 209.0
Today's Weight: 201.0
Total Loss: 8.0lbs
Starting Weight (Blog): 205.6
Difference: -4.6lbs

I was so excited to see that I lost 1.6lbs this week.  To know that I've lost 8lbs so far is awesome.  Again, it doesn't sound like a great deal, but a slow healthy weight loss means the ability to maintain and keep it off in the long term.  This is going exactly as I had hoped and I couldn't ask for better results.  I am feeling great, I'm starting to notice definition a little in my muscles, particulary in my calves and biceps and this morning my khakis actually fit a SMIDGE looser than normal!  This is fantastic!

I've received a lot of great feedback from friends and family and how many of you have been motivated by my blog to do more for yourself.  That is outsanding and I fully support you in whatever changes you want to make for yourself!  For those who are thinking about it or are just starting out, you will feel amazing in a few weeks and all of it will become like second nature.  No it's not easy or fun, but when you start to watch your body change and look better, you know it's worth it!  I'm here to support and motivate you every day through my own journey and together we can accomplish ANYTHING!  So keep going, push forward and do it!  If you haven't started, get up and get going!

Tomorrow is Day 2 and we'll be halfway through week 4.  Thank goodness because I can't deal with this routine much more! LOL.  Until then kids...

The End of Week 3 & Introducing My Points! (Day 20)

Just back from the gym and I gotta tell ya kids....no joke...details to come but first, a recap:

Today being the 1st Sunday of the month was Fast Sunday, in accordance with that I did not have breakfast, lunch or snacks in between so meal tracking starts with dinner.

Dinner: Country Style Pork Ribs (BBQ) - 3-4oz (6pts)
Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes - 1 cup (6pts)
2 Biscuits (10pts)
Snack: 1 1/2 Cups of "Founders Favorite" Ice Cream (18pts)
Post workout: Banana w/ reduced fat peanut butter - 3 tbsp (7pts)
Total Points Used = 47
Daily Points Allowance = 42
Weekly Bonus Used = 5
Weekly Bonus Allowance = 49
Weekly Bonus Remaining = 24
Activity Points Earned (Week) = 34
Activity Points Used (Week)= 34

Ok, so you will notice something a bit different about my meal recap.  I was thinking about how it sounds sometimes reading about all the "treats" I allot for myself and what some people may see as me "falling off the wagon" is really me utilizing the WW system as it was designed.  So I decided to start listing out the amount of points I eat throughout the day and how I use my points each week including any Activity Points I earn and bonus points I use.  I only log Activity Points for exercise and my weekly goal is 25.  I think this will help everyone better understand the method to my madness and also for anyone on WW Points Plus to get some creative ideas on using their points to the fullest.

I have the WW app on my iPhone that helps me track everything I eat and all the activity I decide to log each day so I stay on track and accountable.  I purposely look for ways to utilize the Activity Points I earn throughout the week and if warranted any bonus points that I choose.  This is how WW is set up.  I don't have to use any of the extra points or I can use all of them, it's up to me and I think spelling it out may help me better see the choices I'm making as well as be informative for those following along.  I always like to look at my points as money.  I get $42 every day to spend on whatever I want.  When you think of that way.....and you go to eat lunch and you want pizza, when you figure out that 2 slices of pizza will cost you $22, suddenly it takes on a new meaning!  I mean that is some EXPENSIVE pizza!! :-)  It may sound like a silly way of doing things, but it definitely helps.  My boss and I laugh at each other when we are craving junk and she'll say "Do you really want to spend $7 for a cookie?" LOL.  Believe me....it helps avoid a lot of pitfalls!

So there ya have it and there you are, introducing My Points for the world to see! :-)

Today's workout was Day 4 of Week 3 on Inferno Standard.  I have to tell you I did the stationery bike today and I really was having a tough time making it through the 24 minutes of speed intervals.  I was pretty exhausted halfway through.  I pressed on while watching Gossip Girl, but it was difficult!  The strength training was pretty decent.  I've been doing similar exercises for 3 weeks now, it has become routine.  I can't wait until I switch it all up in week 5....I'm kind of getting sedentary in my motivation with the same routine each week.  But only 1 more week and then we ramp it up (oh my word...I'm channeling Debbie Siebers!!!)...Now I know I need to rest! LOL.  Tomorrow is weigh-in day...wish me luck!! Although with all the weight lifting I don't know how much I should be expecting to lose as they say you gain muscle and the scale may not change much but you look better.....still I'd like to see 1-2 pounds coming off tomorrow.....cross your fingers!  Until then kids...

In The Case of The Missing Pancakes, how do you plead? (Saturday Recap)

GUILTY!  I have to plead guilty your honor!!!

Saturday was a nice day outside weather wise.  I had to work all day but it wasn't overly busy thankfully. Here's a recap:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage D-Lite sandwich (English Muffin)
Snack: Banana
Lunch: Hummus w/ pita bread and olives and celery/carrots/grape tomatoes
Snack: Tuna Salad (no bread) w/ an apple
Dinner: Chicken & Grape salad w/ Feta Crumbles and Balsamic Breeze dressing spritzer
Late Night Snack: Pancakes, sausage & hash browns (YUM!)

Last night my gal pal Maggie and I went out to see a show and were out pretty late.  Afterward we decided we were both a little hungry and made a pit stop at a city diner for a late night snack! LOL.  The pancakes were quite tasty, although I did scrape off all the butter they served with it and used just enough syrup.  I did deplete a good portion of my WW bonus points, but that's what they are there for! :-)  After the fact we decided that the meal wasn't SO good that it warranted the use of bonus points but what can you do, once it's eaten....you're done!

Nothing else too terribly exciting today.  I will wrap up week 3 day 4 workout later this evening and say goodbye to another week...stay tuned for today's recap later!  Until then kids....

Much Needed Sleep.....(Catch Up)

I apologize for skipping a blog day but last night after running some errands and having dinner I was exhausted and fell asleep.  I was desperately in need of a good 8+ hours of sleep for once.  Normally I get between 6 and 7 since I workout late at night.  Here's the recap:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage D-lite Sandwich (English Muffin) w/ a banana
Snack: Apple
Lunch: Lean Cuisine Spaghetti w/ meatballs
Snack: Blackberries w/ Splenda & Hot Chocolate
Dinner: FREE ZONE FRIDAY! :-)  Penn Station Chicken Parm sandwich w/Fries
Snack: 1 cup of "Founders Favorite" ice cream from Cold Stone

You may be wondering about "Free Zone Friday".  Let me explain.....anyone who is following each day gets to see exactly what I eat every day, nothing is withheld.  So you know that 90-95% of my meals are health conscious and nutritious meals.  In order to stay on track, it is important to indulge once in a while as it helps satisfy the cravings we normally have for "junk food".  The key to indulging is moderation and portion control.  I don't over indulge every day, I don't have a "FREE DAY" for the whole day.  I typically will treat myself to something "bad (but good)" 1 or 2 meals a week.  Last night what I really wanted was a pizza or Chinese food.  I knew if I got a pizza I would likely get bread sticks or wings too and eat those along with most of the pizza.  Bad idea.  If I ordered Chinese I'd be inclined to get the bigger portions w/ crab Rangoon and egg rolls to boot and I NEVER leave left over Chinese food.  Another bad idea.  So a chicken parm sandwich at Penn Station seemed like it would do the trick.  The marinara and toasty bread would satisfy my pizza craving and the fries would satisfy my "salty" needs!  The plus side is, once the sandwich and fries are gone....that's the end of the meal.  I can't go back for seconds or thirds! :-)  On the plus side I didn't even eat all the fries!  The "Founders Favorite" ice cream was a little bonus for myself, I felt like I deserved it.  Again, I didn't over do it, I only had a cup.  But it was SOOOOO good!!!  I did start out trying to just spoon from the container, but Mac stopped me and said I should put it in a bowl.  Better idea, as I can control the portion much easier! :-)  After all that goodness I curled up w/ the pups and went to sleep.

Fear not!  I rose early this morning and trekked off to the gym for my cardio workout that I missed on Friday.  Day 3 of Week 3 - Inferno Standard.  It was a simple cardio workout to burn 250 calories.  I actually enjoyed working out in the morning, it made me feel awake and refreshed, got my body going!! (I may have to try this more often!)  I will finish up week 3 Day 4 either this evening or tomorrow.  I can't believe it's almost week 4!!!  Until then kids.....

The Color Purple.....Day 17

"I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it!" - Alice Walker, The Color Purple.
If you know me you know that my all time favorite movie is The Color Purple.  Incidentally it's one of my favorite musicals as well (thanks to a gal pal of mine who took me one year for Christmas!)  I was working out this evening and a song from the musical came on and gave me some motivation to push through my chest exercises!  If you've never seen the movie or the play or read the book, I highly encourage one or all of them, very inspirational and moving!  Here's todays' recap:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage D-Lite Breakfast sandwich (English Muffin) w/ Banana
Snack: Apple
Lunch: Healthy Choice Steamer (Chicken Romano) w/ Fruit Bowl
Snack: Banana & Hot Chocolate
Dinner: Whole Wheat Pasta w/ 1 Chicken Sausage link mixed w/ peppers & onions in light marinara
Snack: Muscle Milk Lite Protein Drink (Post Workout)

Today I got to wear my new workout outfit to the gym that I purchased at Target!  I mean you gotta look the part too right? :-)  I've posted a progress pic as well, although I'm not certain there is a huge visual change.  While the scale is showing I'm losing weight, I keep wondering when my clothes will start to fit better! LOL.  My pants are still a little snug in the waist.  Maybe in another 5lbs they will be better!

Check out those biceps!  WORK! LOL.

On topic, here is a quick story from the files....

A few years back, during another one of my weight loss kicks I had planned a night out with my favorite partner in crime and fun, Chico (aka Vivian as many of you have come to know :-) I have known Chico for almost 12 years now, he was one of the first friends I met in coming to St. Louis.  I actually chatted with him a few months prior on Web TV (who remembers those!!? LOL)  He has been a terrific friend and support system through the years and I love him dearly! This is one of a million tales he and I could tell of our adventures together!  So I digress.......I arrived at his house that night to pick him up for our night on the town.  Now one thing you need to know about Chico is he is a FANTASTIC cook and baker!  His deserts are amazing.  Chico had made a lemon bundt cake that day and it was proudly displayed under a glass cake stand.  It looked like a perfect start to our evening, but being on a diet at the time I had to resist!  I had expressed to him that I had lost 6lbs recently...his reply was "I don't see how!" (all in jest!)  Another thing to know about Chico and I is that we are constantly jabbing at one another and poking fun in the most sarcastic of ways.  He then proceeds to say...."Those jeans look like they're painted on!" LOL.  We both had a good laugh, and admittedly the jeans were a lil snug!  But they looked cute and matched the shirt I was wearing so I didn't care! LOL.  Chico and I always go on about how much we like to eat and I'm sure he has some even better tales to tell of me and food, but we'll save those for another time! :-)

Tonight's workout was all about arms and shoulders!  Day 2 of Week 3 (of a 26 week program) brought to you by www.workoutbox.com.  Check it out!!

Tomorrow is Friday and the end to a pretty decent week overall!  Stay tuned for more...until then kids...

A day off in every sense....Day 16

I was off work today and I got some errands done, cleaned the entire house (and I mean clean!) and relaxed for a bit!  I even gave my self a special treat and got a massage and a haircut at the gym!!  For once I didn't mind getting out in the cold to go to the gym! :-)
Heres the meal recap:

Breakfast: Muscle Milk Protein Shake
Snack: None
Lunch: High Protein Bowl - Chicken Teriyaki & Steamed Veggies w/ lobster rangoon @ CBW (delish!)
Snack: None
Dinner: Turkey Burger w/ Reduced Fat Provolone and tomato and onion w/ baked steak fries
Snack: Banana w/ Chocolate Jell-O Pudding Sundae (low fat, low points snack but very tasty! No icecream needed.)

I had planned on completing my work out after my massage, but my best pal Colene told me that you aren't supposed to workout after a massage.  Naturally I was going to anyway, but looked it up and turns out she was right (there I said it Colene! LOL)  Something to do with how soft and relaxed your muscles are afterwards that you can do more damage to them if you put a lot of weight on them.  So I just did the massage and haircut and came home.  I do feel relaxed however!  My muscles aren't as sore and I'm ready to go for tomorrow.

Just to put it on paper for everyone, my workout program is a 4 day workout split, so I can workout any 4 days that I want and take 3 days off, so I don't always have to do 4 consecutive days.  I don't want anyone thinking I'm skipping out of a workout for a massage! LOL.  Be sure to check out www.workoutbox.com if you want to learn more about what I'm doing for exercise.  It really is an awesome program and Travis and his team are fantastic support!  At only $9/month for a 26-week training program with real time support, you can't beat it!!  Whether you want to workout at home or at a gym, Workout Box has a program for you!

I did get a request to try and get a picture of the Sequin Gym Bag Boy and while I did promise never to bring him up again, I will do what I can to appease the masses and click a pic next time I see him at the gym, then you can see what all the fuss is about! LOL.  I try to keep it real and keep it entertaining at the same time.

I'm getting very close to hitting my first WW goal of 5% weight loss since I began, keep your fingers crossed, I will be SUPER excited once I hit it!! :-)  Until then kids....

Pandora's Box and The Return of Sequin Gym Bag Boy...Day 15

Well the positive spin from today is that it wasn't raining at all.  But it was SOOO cold!  Another one of those "do I really have to go mom?" type of gym days!  Here's a quick food recap:

Breakfast: 2 Eggo Wholegrain Waffles, 2 Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage Patties (and no I didn't burn my shirt this time! LOL) w/ a Banana
Snack: Apple
Lunch: Turkey Sandwich on Whole Wheat w/ Simply Naked Pita Chips
Snack: Veggie plate w/ lite ranch dip
Dinner: St. Louis Bread Co. - Steak Balsamico w/ chips
Snack: Yoplait Frozen Smoothie (In 2 servings 1 pre and 1 post workout)

So today was Week 3 Day 1 of Inferno Standard from www.workoutbox.com.  Back to intensity intervals w/ cardio, I took it back to the treadmill as the intensity is more easily controlled and consistent, I burned a lot more calories than I did on the bike yesterday.  The weight section seemed short today, but I increased the weight amounts with the shorter number of reps.  Abs of course saw the return of Iron Cross Crunches and Bicycle Crunches....my arch nemesis!! I did great on the first set of bicycles, I made it all the way through without stopping.  By the time set 2 came around, my legs and abs were screaming and I had to take a couple of breaks.  All in all a good workout.

I promise this will be the end of me mentioning this, but it's just so intriguing.  I saw the return of Sequin Gym Bag Boy this evening.  I am guessing now that he is a good friend of the night supervisor, as he has been chatty-cathy with her the past few times I've seen him in there.  I wish that was how I could spend my gym visits and still look like he does....HATER (or better yet...HATE HER!)  I just don't get the sequin/bedazzled gym bag with what appear to be his initials.  I'm all about being out and proud....but turn down the flame a little girl....it's gettin hot up in this joint! LOL.

Driving home from Kentucky I rediscovered an old friend on my iPhone.....the Pandora App.  I queued up the "Beyonce" channel and away we went....Pandora delivered so many of my favorite jams from different artists...it was AWESOME!  So tonight at the gym I decided to give ole Pandora a try again as I have grown deeply tired of my iPod mixes.  Pandora delivered again....I had enough motivating music to push me through my workout and keep me going!  They've made some good improvements to the app as well.  I thoroughly enjoyed Pandora!  I will definitely be using it in the future! :-)

Back home, relaxing and about to head to bed.  I am off of work tomorrow and can't wait to sleep in and finally catch up on house chores!!

My gal pal asked me about posting another pic.  I probably will by the end of this week, although I don't think there is any visual difference yet.  A little definition in my legs and arms, but nothing to write home to mom about.  But it's all about the progression however great or small, so be on the look out for a follow up pic!  Until then kids....

I know why people get fat in the winter! (Day 14)

Not that it's a great life mystery solved or anything, but I realize now why people get fat in the winter.  Who wants to get out in all this mess?  I came home this evening, took care of the dogs and Mac (who is STILL sick and please get better soon!) had some leftover chili and fell asleep!  When I woke up it was 10pm and raining outside.  The last thing I wanted to do was leave the warmth of my blanket on the couch and go workout!  What always motivates me is this blog.  I never want to have to write "skipped my workout today".  Not that I have this overwhelming fan base that would be devestated that I missed a workout or anything, but I've set a goal to do something and wimping out because of a little cold rain is lame!  Here's a quick meal recap:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Ham Breakfast Bowl w/ Banana
Snack: Apple
Lunch: Healthy Choice Steamer - Chicken Margherita
Snack: Special K Protein Bar
Dinner: Chili w/ lean ground beef
Snack: Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Sandwich on whole wheat

So needless to say I got dressed, took the dogs out one last time and then headed for the gym.  I totally get why people don't workout as much in the winter...it's too cold and more of a hassle to get bundled up.  Oddly, my workout today seemed relatively easy.  I increased the amount of weights I usually do so I'm not sure what the issue was.

Today officially marked 14 days and the end of Week 2 of Inferno Standard from www.workoutbox.com.  Incidentally it was weigh in day as well.  Drumroll please.....

Starting Weight: 205.6lbs
Today's Weight: 202.6lbs
Difference: -3.00lbs
Total Weight Loss Since I Started WW: 6.4lbs (209.0lbs - 202.6lbs)

I was excited to see a loss, especially after a holiday weekend.  Trust me when I say that is not easy to do and was unexpected! :-)  Must have been that final push of cardio from last night!

One of my friends suggested today that we run a 5k race next spring.  I don't know about then...but right now the thought of running a 5k makes me want to lay down and sleep! LOL.  I told her I'd think about it and let her know when springtime came!  I guess it is a nice motivator.

Another one of my gal pals who is doing WW with me set a lofty goal of losing 3lbs per week until May.  I told her I'd be dead if I lost that much weight, but setting a per week goal is certainly helpful.  When you look at it as 2-3lbs a week rather than 40lbs overall, it seems more doable.  All I can really ask for is to keep losing each week, I'll take what I can get, but the more the better!!

Tomorrow I begin Week 3 of Inferno....can't wait...only 23 weeks to go!  Until then kids...

Too cold to workout! Day 13....

I thought today was going to be sunny and nice!?  So much for that...it was cloudy and cold all day!  I had resolved all day to make today Day 3 of Week 2 of Inferno Standard....to keep up withy my workouts.....you know how it is when you get home and it's cold out, but warm inside, you change into your comfy clothes and settle in for dinner and nightly TV?  There is almost nothing that will convince you to get back out.....well that was me today!  Here's the food recap.....

Breakfast: Egg Beaters, Turkey Bacon and Cheese on a bagel thin
Snack: None
Lunch: Broccoli, Carrots & Almonds w/ lite ranch (sounds minimal, but suprisingly a 6pt lunch)
Snack: None
Dinner: Chili w/ extra lean ground beef
Snack: None

Do back to the reluctance to workout.  I kept debating with myself back and forth on what I wanted to do.  For day 3 I only had to burn 290 calories w/ cardio, there was no strength training to do.  It seemed simple, but I didn't feel like driving 20 minutes to the gym and I hate the treadmill at the gym here in our complex.  What is a guy to do!!  I finally remembered that a while back I purchased EA Sports Active 2 for PS3.  I knew I could get an all over workout and burn the required calories, all in the comfort of my living room!!  So I popped in the game and went to it! I actually completed the workout twice on "Hard" intensity! :-)  It was a great workout...I forgot how much I actually enjoyed that.  I'm glad I rememered having that and glad that I followed through with the workout.

Sometimes it is hard to find the motivation to keep up, as I mentioned in my first blog, this isn't going to be easy and every day isn't going to be a victory.  Losing weight is about learning and keeping focused.  When I lack motivation for eating right or exercising, I keep going over the long term goal and why I am doing this and keep myself on track.  Does that mean that I will 100% of the time hit my workout goals? No.  Does it mean that every day will be filled with totally healthy meals? No.  What it means is that I know where I want to end up and where I'm coming from, that helps keep me focused and gets me back on track when I fall off.  No plan or person is perfect, if we were none of us would ever be fat! :-)

Here's to the end of week 2! (Actually 1 final day to go tomorrow, which is officially day 14)  Tomorrow is weigh in day....let's hope the holiday feasting and my 1 cup of Starbucks hot chocolate didn't do too much damage! :-)  Until then kids....

I'm baaaaack!!

So after a 3 day trip to Kentucky to visit family and friends for the holidays I am back!  I purposesly did not blog while I was away so that I could focus on my time with my family and friends as I do not get to see them very often.  It was a suprise visit so everyone was very excited to see me! :-)

When I began this blog, I did tell you that I would be honest about my daily activity where diet and exercise were concerned.  So to continue with that promise, I will tell you that I did not exercise at all while I was gone and my dietary choices were in line with traditional holiday/vacation style eating! :-)  At Thanksgiving dinner however I did limit myself to just one plate full, I did not go back through the line multiple times.  I did indulge in dessert as well.  For me, the holidays are a free zone....no points, no guilt.

Now that I have spent 3 days indulging and enjoying food and rest....it's time to get back on the wagon and continue this journey.  I'd like to get off at least 10 more pounds before Christmas.  That's an agreesive 2.5lbs per week....so I hope I can do it!!  I hope everyone enjoyed time with their family and friends and that you enjoyed all of the wonderful food that was shared.

I had an eye opening experience while I was in Kentucky.  Colene and I along with several other friends volunteered at a "Soup Kitchen" on Thanksgiving day for breakfast.  This is something Colene and her friends had done for a couple of years and this year I wanted to help.  It was very touching at how grateful these people were for the meal.  Most of them had nothing, some had a little, but not much to speak of.  It really made me realize that I am so fortunate to have the friends and family that I do and to be in the position I am in.  There were so many people there who just had nothing but the clothes on their back and a few other things.  Most through no fault of their own....just victims of unfortunate events and unable to bounce back on their own.  Be thankful and grateful for all that you have.  Stop milling over petty things and disputes in your relationships....and I encourage you if you ever can to reach out and volunteer in your community to give back where you can. (Thank you Colene for taking me with you to help serve others!)

Enjoy your weekend....until next time kids...

Day 9 and how dieting is a hazard.....

Today was mostly uneventful, however I will regail you with the tale of how dieting can sometimes be a hazard to your health, if you aren't paying attention.....but first, a recap:

Breakfast: 2 Eggo-Nutrigrain Whole Wheat waffles and 2 Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage patties w/ Banana
Snack: Blackberries w/ Splenda
Lunch: Lean Cuisine Chicken and Bowtie pasta
Snack: None
Dinner: Chick-fil-a Chicken Sandwich w/ fries
Snack: None

Let me start off by saying that Chick-fil-a was DELISH...and a reason why I LOVE Weight Watchers....it allows me to eat things like that and still stay on track! :-)  It was impromptu...I did not plan to have that for dinner, but got unexpectedly stuck at the mall and couldn't help my urge to indulge!

Today's workout consisted of Ladder Runs but using the Eliptical Strider machine instead of a treadmill for 2 miles, increasing my speed every half mile.  Then it was on to weights.  I went to the gym very early this evening and it was PACKED.  I miss my late night workouts! LOL.  Today was about triceps, shoulders and back, followed by of course...you guessed it....abs!  Lots of crunches!!  Week 2 Day 2 of Inferno Standard from www.workoutbox.com.  Check it out.  They just came out with a mobile app so now I don't have to print my workouts anymore!!  So excited!

So you may be wondering how I learned today that dieting can be a hazard.  Well....I was at work and we do not have a toaster (although after today I may have to convince my boss that we need one. LOL)  So I put my waffles in the oven to toast them up.  I used to use the cookie baker, but it took an eternity to even get a slight cripiness to them, so I thought I'd go with the oven.  I set it on broil.  Amazingly this too still took forever!  So I go to the oven to turn my waffles over to toast the other side, not remembering it's on broil so the TOP burner is red hot.  I turn my waffles and pull my arm out and close the door.  I notice in my periphreal vision a bright flash, as I turned and looked, my right sleeve of my shirt was on fire!! YIKES!!  I quickly hit it with my hand and luckily put it out.  Brand new work shirt...ruined.  All for some frozen waffles....I was just trying to do the right thing and eat healthy.....so you see kids....dieting can be a hazard if you aren't paying attention!! :-)

Nothing else too exciting going on.  Everyone around seems to be sick....hope I don't get it too!!!  To those that are, please get better soon! :-)

Tomorrow is day 10....wow!!  Good Stuff!  Until then kids...

Gossip Girl Saved My Workout......Day 8

Just back from the gym...all showered and refreshed...WHEW!  What a workout.  Day 8 and here's the recap:

Today was weigh-in day...drumroll please.......

Starting Weight: 205.6lbs
Today's Weight: 203.6lbs
Difference: -2.0lbs

It may not seem like much, but 1-2lbs per week is a healthy weight loss goal and I am very excited!  I actually have lost more than that because I began Weight Watchers 2 weeks prior to blogging and started that at 209.0lbs so I've lost 5.4lbs in 3 weeks! :-)

Here's today's meals:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage Breakfast bowl & apple
Snack: Blackberries w/ Splenda
Lunch: Turkey Bacon & Turkey Sandwich with fat free mayo on whole wheat
Snack: Weight Watchers Ice Cream Sandwich
Dinner: Greek wrap w/ Pepperidge Farm Baked Natural Cheese Crisps
Snack: None

So I've been catching up on Gossip Girl the past few days (I'm on Season 3 and I go in and out of watching it).  The end of this season has gotten really intense and it's been hard to stop watching!!

Tonight at the gym, I had 30 minutes of interval cardio to do.  I decided to change things up a bit and do the bike instead of the treadmill and spare my shins the pain.  Well, I forgot that the tradeoff for that was killing my hamstrings and calves! UGH!  5 minutes in it was the last place I wanted to be.  My gym music mix wasn't motivating me and I was on the verge of skipping cardio.  Then I thought...since I'm sitting here, why don't I turn on Gossip Girl while I workout! (I used my Netflix app on my iPhone)  GENIUS!  It totally took my mind off how exhausting my cardio was and the time practically flew by!!  I biked 10 miles in 35 minutes burning over 300 calories!! WOOT!  In essence..Gossip Girl saved my workout!

I finished with more legs and back exercises, a play off of Week 1 Day 1, different # of reps and used different weights.  The abs as usual were my least favorite with the return of Iron Cross and Bicycles.   But as usual after it was all over I felt better and knew I had done the right thing by sticking with it to the end!  Check out www.workoutbox.com if you are interested in what I'm doing for exercises.  It really is a fantastic site and VERY inexpensive professional training!

I am exhausted, not so exhausted however that I can't go into the living room and try out my new Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii!!  So super stoked.....might as well burn a few extra calories before bed, right! :-)  What can I say, I'm a kid at heart and a little in the face too! :-)  Is tomorrow day 9 already?  Time flies when you're losing weight!  Until then kids....

Day 7...Quiet on the home front....

Today was a quiet day.  It was cold and rainy outside and I had to work for 4 hours. Boo!  Here is a breakdown of my meals:

Breakfast: Bacon, Egg & Cheese on Cibatta w/ mixed fruit
Snack: None
Lunch: None
Dinner: Lomo Saltado (A tasty peruvian dish from the Weight Watchers Kitchen recipes)
Snack: TBD (Likely a WW smoothie)

Normally I'm not one to skip lunch or my daily snacks, but we had a late breakfast and I worked from 12-4.  I did however manage to fend off the craving for a chocolate chip cookie at work!

I'm gearing up for the start of Week 2 of Inferno from www.workoutbox.com, I previewed the workout and it ain't lookin too pretty!  Gotta hit it hard though!

While we all wait in anticipation of that workout however, here's another tale from the vault.  My friend Julie will appreciate this story.

If any of you recall in my back story, I talked about how I lost weight when I first moved to St. Louis.  I hired my friend Julie to train me at the gym that we both worked at.  Now Julie rarely took on new clients as she was fully booked with the people she was currently training, but she agreed to do this for me.  One thing you have to know about Julie is that she is a great friend, but an evil trainer.  Evil in the sense that she knows exactly how to torture you to get the results you want! :-)

Being new to the workout scene, pretty much any exercise we did I had something to say about it. (Imagine that....)  Julie would always give me advice on my diet and what I should and shouldn't be eating.  I rarely listened.

After I had lost several pounds, I began to feel pretty confident in myself and my workout abilities.  One day before leaving Julie reminded me of our training session the next day and she gave me very specific orders for breakfast - "You have to eat protein, sausage, eggs, something with a good source of protein and carbs!  Tomorrow is legs day and you will need your energy."  Uh-huh...ok girl, I hear you...bye!

The next morning I woke up and wasn't particularly hungry.  I reached for the Special K cereal.  It had protein and carbs, and the milk added to the protein, I should be fine!

I walk into the gym and Julie was finishing up with a client.  As I passed her she inquired about my breakfast and my reply was "Don't worry I'm fine, I had a bowl of Special K!"  Julie did not respond but went back to her client.

When we began she had me doing squats and lunges.  For added torture she made me do "Walking Lunges" WITH DUMBELLS!!  By around the second set (the details of this are fuzzy) I began to feel queasy and light headed.  I looked at Julie (not wanting to concede) and told her I had to use the bathroom.  I did indeed go to the bathroom, but it was to get away from the torture.  Nauseated and dizzy I lay in a stall on the bathroom floor, curled up in a ball.  You know how for some reason, the cold tile on your face makes you feel better?  I lay there for what seemed like forever.  Apparently someone went and told Julie that I was curled up on the floor in the bathroom.

I soon returned to continue our workout.  Julie had me on the leg press machine.  She started with light weights and I (in what looking back was a huge mistake) said to her "Is that all you got?  This is easy!"....Julie being the Nazi that she was...racked on more weight.....not so easy.  When we got to dead leg lifts I was about to die.  Julie looked at me, saw that I was turning green and told me to rack the weights.  I did so and sat on the bench.  Julie brought me some orange juice to help eleveate my blood sugar, which due to my wonderful breakfast had plummeted!

She then looked at me and said "Next time I tell you to eat something for breakfast, maybe you will listen.  We're done for the day."

Indeed we were done for the day.  I think I went home and crawled in bed and slept for a long while.  After that I never questioned Julie's diet advice again.  After we were finished training I had lost over 30lbs and looked great!!! (Ah, to be 21 again!)

The lesson here is, it is essential to eat a healthy breakfast and never work out on an empty stomach.  Starving yourself is no way to lose weight!  Especially if you are doing a leg intensive weight training that day!  EAT! :-)

Workout Box doesn't really provide too much guidance on WHAT you should eat, but they do give you a guide for how many calories, carbs, fat and protein grams you should be eating each day based on whether or not that day is a workout day.  I typically work out in the evening and I always have protein in my dinner so I usually have plenty of energy to finish my work outs.

Do you have any favorite workout tips or exercises to share? :-)

Week 2 begins tomorrow.....until then kids...

Day 6: Early Thanksgiving....

Today we had an early Thanksgiving with Macs family and it was super yummy! Against the standard dietary advice, I skipped lunch in order to accommodate a most filling dinner!

Breakfast: Turkey Bacon and Egg Beaters w/cheese breakfast sandwich on a bagel thin w/a banana
Snack: Apple
Lunch: None
Snack: 1 Chocolate Chip Cookie
Dinner: Thanksgiving favorites - turkey, dressing, potatoes, casseroles and 1 piece of carmel pecan cheesecake.

I wanted to take a moment to first thank everyone who has sent their words of encouragement and support for my blog and my weight loss.  Your support encourages me to keep going and do better.  I am grateful to those who say that I have inspired them also and send you my support as well!  Please keep sharing this with your friends and family, the more support we all can have, the better!!

Furthermore I want to say that there is A LOT of diet and weight loss information out there.  So much in fact that people (including myself) can get very confused about what is right and what is wrong, what is a hoax and what really works.  The truth of it all is, no one thing works for every single person.  We all metabolize food differently, our bodies carry weight differently, some of us have more weight to lose than others.  There is not a generic coverall that works for every person who wants to lose weight.  You have to find the one that works best for you and your body and lifestyle.  One thing that is for certain, no weight loss is easy, quick, effortless or painless.  You have to work at it.  Pills won't "melt the pounds away" in 2 weeks.  Liquid diets won't make you 10lbs lighter in 48 hours.  Crash dieting is harmful and is not an effective form of weight loss.  I hear people say all the time, "Oh I am only eating 600 calories a day and I'm losing weight!"  Well DUH!  You absolutely will lose weight eating that little.  But once you start eating more than that, it will all come back plus more!  Our bodies naturally burn calories, even by laying in bed all day we burn 1200-2000 calories a day just with normal bodily functions.  When you factor in movement, it's even more.  If you only consume 600 calories a day you are looking at a deficit of up to 1400 or more calories, which is very unhealthy.  Always consult your doctor before doing a serious weight loss plan, and be sure to read reviews about what you want to do.  Make sure it is healthy, effective and sustainable.  You want something you can maintain long term, not a short term fix that will have you gaining it all back once you are done.

I am a believer in the new Weight Watchers system and I know it works because it works for me.  It's something that works for nearly everyone who tries it.  Again, it may not be for EVERYBODY, but it's definitely something sustainable and healthy.  If you ever have any questions or need some support or motivation, I am more than happy to help.  I'm not an expert, but I can tell you what I have learned on my quest to lose weight and share it with you.  If you find anything that works great for you and want to share with me, please do!

Good luck to everyone who is looking to lose weight in a healthy, effective manner, you can do it!  Don't wait for the New Year to make a resolution, start NOW and be looking great BEFORE the New Year starts!  To those who have lost weight recently and before, CONGRATULATIONS!  Especially to my sister-in-law Victoria Elridge who recently dropped 60lbs and who I know looks SPECTACULAR after having 2 kids!  Way to go V, you are another source of inspiration!!

Day 7 approaches, until then kids.....

And now a word from our sponsor......(Day 5 Recap)

Today's blog is brought to you by: Spanx (they're not for everyone)

So having a break from the gym yesterday after dinner I pretty much fell right asleep!  4 days of working out at 11pm at night gets to you after a while! :-)  Here is a recap of day 5:

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage Breakfast Bowl & Banana
Snack: Apple
Lunch: Turkey Sandwich on whole wheat with Lays Chips & Pudding cup
Snack: Blackberries
Dinner: (Dipped into those bonus points finally! LOL) Houlihans Chicken Fingers & Fries.  Although they were more like chicken bites than fingers....
No Snack after dinner.

Since there are no workout details today I will take some time to tell a nice story from the past related to my struggles with weight loss.  Colene will be very excited that I am finally telling this story to the world as she was on the phone with me prior to and after the following events took place.  I hope you enjoy a laugh at my expense. :-)

I have always been one to try anything that helped me lose weight or even gave the ILLUSION that I have lost weight.  All that really mattered was what I looked like in my clothes.  I've tried tummy trimmers and waist belts and sauna suits, to name a few.  Well one day I was traveling through Nordstroms.....no wait...I have to back up a bit.  A few weeks (maybe even a month or so) prior to this I was with Colene in Dillards in Kentucky.  We were shopping just to be shopping and I came across a table display for Spanx.  Now if you don't know what Spanx are, get out from under your rock! LOL.  I had no idea they made them for men however.  I always hear people make jokes ("it took 2 pair of Spanx to get this dress on")  So I looked at Colene and asked "Should I buy one?"  Well she is always an advocate of "Do what you want it's your money, but I don't think you need it" kind of thing.  So I look at the price....$60!!!!  For one shirt!!!!  Are they real?  Needless to say the benefit did NOT outweigh the cost in this scenario.

I digress.

So I'm walking through Nordstroms and I come across (would you believe) a shelf display full of Spanx!  I'm on the phone with Colene and I'm like "I think it's a sign....but do I really want to spend $60?" then I ask her "Do you think the lady will let me try one on?"  Colene says I should ask her and see.  So I find the register lady and ask to try on a pair of Spanx (the t-shirt) and she shows me to the dressing room.  At this point I tell Colene I'll call her back as I am going to try this on and see what it does.

All sounds pretty normal up to this point, right?

Ok...so if you know me, you know that when I buy clothes I always give myself WAY too much credit on the size....scaling over the 200lb mark, I asked that lady for a medium.  Really?  Hear me out....my thought was, if the large would make me look 10lbs thinner, maybe a medium would make me look 15-20lbs thinner, I mean it sounds logical...the tighter the shirt the smaller the stomach.  So anyway.....I pull this shirt out of the box, mind you it's a plain white shirt that looks like its about 4 sizes too small for me.  I'm thinking, it's supposed to be small because it fits snuggly around your body.  I proceed to pull off my regular t-shirt and then attempt to put on the Spanx shirt.  I say attempt because it was quite a chore.  Halfway into the shirt I realize.....d*mn...I should have asked her for a large.  Too late at this point, I'm committed, so I proceed to pull the shirt over my head and shoulders, squeezing it down over my chest and stomach and suddenly, it compressed my midsection and my ability to breath was somewhat diminished.  I look in the mirror, it really just looked like a fat kid wearing his younger brothers tshirt. Ugh!  So I put on my regular tshirt to see how I looked with clothes on.  I will admit I looked smaller, but the way I was compressed it was uncomfortably obvious it was not natural!

Disappointed and even more depressed...I decided it was time to take off the shirt and get back to my shopping.  I remove my shirt and start to pull up on the Spank shirt, I got half way up to my chest and I couldn't move.  The shirt was so tight it that when I bunched it at the top I couldn't stretch it out to take it off.  Oh snap!  I started to slightly panic.  Stay calm...stay calm.....ok.  I grab one side of the Spanx shirt and start pulling as hard as I could to get my arm out, after a struggle I finally get it up over my head.  The garment was so constricted at this point it got stuck.  Here I am in the Nordstrom dressing room, one arm in and one arm out, Spanx stuck over my head, I kept bumping into the door trying to pull myself free.  I'm thinking...it would be most awkward to yell for assistance and have that lady see me in this shape.  At this point I was breathing very heavily, sweat was pouring from my head as I kept struggling to remove the shirt.  I finally gave it one last tug with all my remaining strength, heaving and panting and grunting (if anyone was in the dressing room next to me they likely thought I was dying or having a seizure) but I kept pulling and finally....FREEDOM!  Mind you I nearly fell over and hit the wall, but I was out of the Spanx!  Bad..bad idea, definitely not worth $60.

So I put my shirt back on, stuff the Spanx shirt back into the box.  Sweaty, red faced, still breathing heavy and hair looking a disheveled mess, I calmly return to the register.  The lady looked at me like I was crazy and says "How did that work out?"....."I don't think it's going to work for me, but thank you for your help."  I walk calmly out of the department, up the escalator and left the mall, calling Colene on my way to the car to share my most unfortunate experience with Spanx.

So you see, we all go through GREAT lengths and pains to try and look thinner.  Men are no exception.  Mind you, I probably burned several calories with that episode, but me and Spanx are officially over.

I hope you enjoyed my stroll down memory lane.....alas it is time for me to get ready for work.  Tonight we are having Thanksgiving dinner with Mac's family.....I can't wait!!!

Until next time kids...

The one and only,

K
