Weigh-in day and the perils of BBQ.....

So Monday was weigh-in day as is customary each week.  Here are the results....(in Biggest Loser form. LOL)

Keith, when you came to the ranch your starting weight was: 209lbs
Last week you weighed in at: 193.4lbs
Your current weight is: 191.8lbs
You lost a total of: -1.6lbs
Your total weight loss since you have been here is: 17.4lbs
Your percentage of weight lost is: 8.32%

These are great numbers for me and I am very pleased to once again be down almost 2lbs this week!  I'd like to hit the 20lb mark by the end of week 13 which will put me halfway through the 26 week Inferno Standard program and over halfway to my goal weight!

Let me tell you how this WON'T happen. LOL.  Eating BBQ!  Last night we ate Bandanas BBQ, which if you ever had you know is delicious!  Normally I can do pretty decent as the meat itself is not high in WW points and I can usually sneak in a couple of sides too.  Last night I decided to enjoy the bread AND the donut holes too!  Oh my!  I was so full and so uncomfortable!!!  I actually fell asleep right afterwards.  It's interesting how your body starts to reject things like this when you've been trying to feed it nutritional things.  Next time I think I'll stick to the meat, no bread and maybe just the baked beans or green beans!  Lesson learned...and you know my philosophy...NO GUILT...NO REGRETS!  You pick up and move on....

This week I started blogging for my work and I am very excited to expand my passion for getting healthy in 2012 to an even bigger audience!  As I create blogs there I will try and incorporate the links here so you can follow along there as well.  That blog will be a lot less about me and more about helping other people find successful ways to lose weight.  It will be however another way for me to hold myself accountable....I mean after all, how can you tell someone to put the fork down if you keep shoveling it in! LOL.

I will ramp it up with Week 11 Day 1 tonight....I think I have to run another 5k....oh Lord....check the news later to see if they had to carry a guy out of Lifetime Fitness after he fell out from the treadmill! LOL.

That's all I have today!  I hope you each have a fantastic Tuesday and I wish you the very best in succeeding in your goals!

The Biggest Loser....

I'm not certain what prompted me to begin watching The Biggest Loser but I came across it on Netflix and decided to start with Season 1.  I got hooked after the first episode.  This show was so inspiring to watch all of these people who are far more overweight than I am work so hard for something that we all want but seldom achieve.  The show is packed with emotion, heartache, victory, celebration and determination.  It really is a roller coaster ride to the end!  I finally finished Season 1 (in 2 days!) and the winner lost 122lbs!  Now I don't have that much to lose, but how motivating is that?  I watched these people pass up pizza, fried chicken, cake, cookies, ice cream, pasta, everything that could possible throw them off track they resisted. (Made me feel bad for that donut I ate yesterday! LOL)  It really gave me a new appreciation and respect for what I am trying to do for myself and the focus to keep moving forward.  If you haven't seen the show I highly recommend watching it, you won't be able to resist getting up and working out afterwards!

Today I closed out Week 10.  My workout was fairly simple, starting with 2 miles of cardio then a little bit of leg workouts and then a big focus on biceps!  The ab portion was the easiest ab routine I've done throughout this whole program!  I'm amazed at how far I've come in 10 weeks.  When I first started I could barely hold myself up for a few seconds and now I can power through 30 seconds of plank with ease!  Crunches still get me but I can do more of those in a row than before too.  My weight amounts have increased on my exercises and I just feel stronger!  I'm 3 weeks away from being half way done with Inferno Standard and I can't wait!!

I can tell that my metabolism has increased dramatically because I am hungry ALL THE TIME! LOL.  I eat my normal meals throughout the day (I eat 3 regular meals and 3 snacks) but I find myself starving even after having just eaten.  I think I need to evaluate my caloric intake vs. what I am burning off with my workouts because I may not be taking in enough to sustain my workouts and that's not a good thing!  Then again, neither is being hungry all the time! LOL.
I have a huge desire to want to help others be successful in their weight loss efforts and to encourage and motivate people to get started and keep going!  I want people to know that it IS possible to be skinny and you don't have to settle for being fat anymore.  It's not easy, it's not fun but in the end it will all be worth it.  I've got a few ideas cranking in my head..so stay tuned...you never know what I'm going to come up with! :-)

That's all I have today.  I hope you all have a fantastic week and I wish you the very best in succeeding at your goals!

What...the flip...was that? (Oooh peanut butter & bananas!)

I"m not exactly sure who thought it was a great plan or why but my workout tonight was re-dang-diculous!  At first glance it seems as though it should be short and sweet....yeah not so much!  Check it:

It started off with a 5k run!  Now I've ran 3 miles before but in intervals of varying speeds, this was a full on steady pace.  I started around 5.5mph and ended with 7.6mph and of course it wasn't just to 3 miles...no no...a full 5k is 3.1 miles!  Now you think...what's another 1/10th of a mile....well let me tell you...when you've been blazing along at 7mph and are trying to reign it in...kicking it up to 7.6mph so you can blitz that last 1/10th of a mile is killer!  So I get off the treadmill...drenched in sweat...clocking 3.1 miles in only 31:44!  Dead.

Then we move on to weights and strength training.  The 1st round is 3 sets and the rest of the circuits are 2 sets...seems simple enough.  The reps in each set are 15 and 12. Fine.  Today was all about chest, back and shoulders and I am here to say....looks can be deceiving!  Just trying to push through those two sets was a chore!  My sets are usually comprised of 8-10 reps so kicking it up to 15 and 12 was intense!  My arms literally felt like they would fall off.  It was the first time that I was truly struggling through my sets.  Nonetheless I completed them all.

So THEN after allll of that we finish with abs.  Now normally my routines end with 1 set of ridiculous ab workouts and then we're done, but today....well today of course we have to do 2 sets!  Starting with crunches with a WEIGHTED medicine ball over my head for 40 seconds...then standard crunches with my hands over my head for 90 seconds...followed by 30 seconds of alternating Superman's, and repeat! UGH!

I got up off that gym floor and was so over it!  I pushed through the whole workout, but I wasn't happy about it! LOL.  I have no clue why Travis Steffen thought that collaboration was ok, but it was not. :-)

Meanwhile I tried a new recipe from Hungry Girl tonight.  The recipe consisted of slicing a banana up and mixing up fat free Cool whip and Reduced Fat Peanut Butter together and putting that mixture between two banana slices and freezing them.  When I got home from the gym it was the first thing I reached for!  I actually think they would have been better NOT frozen, although I get the concept.  The peanut butter and Cool whip mixture was DELISH, then again I'd eat peanut butter with almost (I repeat almost) anything!  Not sure I'll try it again....but if I do I will definitely NOT freeze them.  Last night I made mini pizzas with whole wheat English muffins and turkey pepperoni (another Hungry Girl recipe)...now those were YUMMY!  I could have 4 of those for the same points as a slice of pizza almost!  Definitely a repeat!  If you missed my blog on Hungry Girl, please check it out...or go to www.hungry-girl.com to find out more. (THANKS COLMON AND VIC FOR GETTING ME HOOKED!  I was skeptical at first...but now I'm in love! LOL)

I'm signing off now because my arms need rest....after all this torture in the gym, somebody better find my abs real super soon! LOL.  Just over 15lbs to go to hit my goal!!!  We end week 10 tomorrow...although week 11 looks ROUGH....oy!  That's all I have for now.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Here just take this pill and it will all go away!

Yesterday I completed Week 10 Day 2 which was just a short cardio workout!  I burned 340 calories and did nearly 3 miles on the elliptical in only 21 minutes!  It was quite invigorating!!!  Day 3 will commence this evening!

If you know me you know that I am a skeptic at heart but I'll try (most) anything once.  I'm usually the one who falls for the "As Seen On Tv" scam products just to see if they work.  For example, recently I bought the "Fast Brite" headlight restorer product.  $10 late my headlights look the same as they did before I put that on.  Fail.  This adds to numerous other things I have bought over the years that promised a miracle but delivered no results.

When it comes to weight loss there seems to be no limit on what we will try in order to lose weight.  Everyone wants the quickest and least painful way to lose weight with the best results.  Now there are products out there that will cause you to lose weight but there are catches.

1. If you lose weight fast it usually comes back plus more.
2. If you lose weight too slow you think the product isn't working.
3. All you really lose is water weight.
4. Pills/supplements give you terrible side effects.
5. Sometimes the product requires a strict diet plan for a sustained period of time.

These are just a few of the roadblocks you might run into when venturing into the world of weight loss products.  What I find amazing is if you look at the fine print on most of these products it says "Use of this product in conjunction with exercise and a sensible diet...."  Come on!  It doesn't take a genius to figure this out.  You don't have to spend $30 on a bottle of pills....any person that incorporates a sensible meal plan and daily exercise is going to lose weight.  What I can guarantee you is that there is NOT a pill, liquid or other product that will allow you to eat ALL that you want and WHATEVER you want and still lose weight.

One particular product I recently came across was something called "Full Bar".  Now the concept here is to eat one of these pre-packaged meal bars and drink 2 full glasses of water before your meal.  The intention was that it helped you to eat less by filling up your stomach prior to eating.  WELL DUH!  Even if you just drank the two big glasses of water before each meal you will be fuller and are likely to eat less.  Why do I need to spend $20 for a box of your bars to help me eat less?  Grab 2 rice cakes and call it a day!

The reason I bring all of this up is that I was at Walgreens the other night and walked by the "Nutrition" section and saw row after row of weight loss products.  All of them claiming dramatic results and huge promises of a sleek super toned physique.  If it were that easy, this blog would have been over 2 months ago. LOL.  I was overwhelmed at the many different products that are out there and I understand why people get so carried away and confused.  It's very important to do your research and read the reviews for anything you are looking to purchase.  This includes workout equipment, DVD's etc.  There are plenty of machines out there that claim to "blast the fat away" but trust me when I say, if a lean body was as simple as rocking back and forth in a chair that massages your back at the same time, obesity would be obsolete in the world! :-)

Real, lasting weight loss takes time and effort.  I'm not saying you have to kill yourself or starve yourself, in fact it's quite the opposite.  Whatever you choose to do be smart about it and make sure it's something that you can maintain.  Anything that promises the world in 30 days probably isn't worth your time or money!

Keep it real and keep it safe! :-)  That's all I have today!

Toddlers & Tiaras and Weight Loss......

Ok so I realize the title seems quite contrary but you'll make the connection here shortly!  First things first...today was weigh-in day!  Now as you know I have been on an active rest week as part of my training program with Workoutbox.com.  During the 26 week program they build in 2 rest weeks, which believe me are very necessary.  Did you know that your body transforms during recovery and not during actual exercising?  Fun fact for the day. :-)  So while initially I had planned on fitting in some low intensity cardio this past week, some unexpected events changed that course of action and I did not hit the gym at all.  Not a total let down however because I really needed and enjoyed the break.

Here are the results:

Starting Weight: 209lbs.
Last Weeks Weight: 195.2lbs
Today's Weight: 193.4lbs
Difference: -1.8lbs
Total Lost: 15.6lbs
Average Weekly Loss: 1.73lbs

Even after a week off I still managed a 1.8lbs loss this past week.  I can tell that my metabolism has been ramped up because I had some extra indulgences last week (not over indulgence) and did not workout and still lost weight.  I took the week off from tracking points on WW too but still mentally monitored my intake so as not to derail.  It's amazing how after several weeks on a plan your mind starts to learn what you can and can't eat and how much is enough or too much.  I've gotten pretty used to the points system with everyday food items that I can usually eyeball a nutrition label and estimate how many points something is going to be.  When I'm really in doubt I whip out the old calculator app on my phone, but I've become a good judge of portions!

I thought it may be wise to start listing the prior weeks weight in conjunction with the current weeks weight so that you can see how much I lose each week in addition to what I've lost overall.  I've been so amazed that I have lost every week except 1.  I know that as I approach my goal weight that it will be more difficult to shed those pounds and I will be gaining muscle in the process, so I'm trying not to focus TOO much on the scale, but it is motivating when the numbers keep dropping each week!

So you may be wondering how Toddlers & Tiaras relates to my weight loss, let me explain.  If you have been following along you know that I get easily bored doing cardio and a few weeks back I came up with the idea to watch Netflix while I exercise.  At the time I was hooked on Gossip Girl and it got me through many a cardio workout.  Since that time I've watched a couple of movies and other TV episodes but recently I got hooked on Toddlers and Tiaras and so I found it on Netflix and started watching it while I was running on the treadmill.  You'd be surprised at how fast the time/miles fly when you're glued to the screen watching 5 year olds get made up to look like 13 year old hoochies. LOL.  My cardio is usually 20-30 minutes long which doesn't quite allow me to finish an episode, but it's enough for me to get drawn in.  If you've never seen the show...don't start because you won't stop! LOL.

In conclusion today I want to share an article concerning an age old weight loss debate that I found interesting.  You can decide for yourself what you thing is accurate.  Again as I have said before, no one thing works for everyone.  You have to find out what works for you and take it from there.  The article does raise some good points however and certainly provides "food for thought."  Enjoy!

That's all I have for today.  I completed Week 10 Day 1!  I have 16 weeks to go and I can't wait to see you at the finish line!  Also, the blog has hit over 1000 views since it began on November 14.  Thank you a thousand times to all who read and support this blog, you don't know what it means and how it has helped me to keep going each week!  Wishing all of you the very best in your goals!

This large is too big.......Rest Week draws to a close

At my work we are required to wear company logo apparel and when I first started I weighed a lot more so when I ordered my work shirts I got them in a large.  Getting dressed this morning I realized...this large is just too big!!  I need to re-order in medium, but I have to wait for the spring time! UGH!  Believe me, this is a GOOD thing but frustrating still because the shirts feel SO baggy on me and actually make me look bigger than I am because of that.  (Sigh) the perils of weight loss....such a hard life! LOL.

Meanwhile  the active Rest Week draws to a close this weekend and I haven't been to the gym once, but I keep dropping on the scales every day so I am OK with that!  I do miss working out and am looking forward to hitting week 10 head on and getting back in the routine and get the rest of this fat gone!!! My next rest week will be at week 22 so it's going to be game on until then!  As Workout Box puts it I'll be "getting a body I can be proud of"!

Today for lunch I was very hungry and ordered Chinese food....I don't know why I keep eating Chinese.  It never does anything for me other than make me feel bloated and I'm hungry a few hours later!  I need to stop...is there a support group for people with an addiction to Chinese food?  On the plus side I've been drinking a TON of water lately so I should have no issues flushing out all this sodium.  I'm definitely looking forward to the weekend and some healthier food choices!

That's all I have for now, it's been relatively slow this week without doing any workouts....but get ready...week 10 is just around the corner and it's going to be a doozy! LOL.

Are You a Hungry Girl (or guy)?

As you may recall, I held off my weigh in day due to an over active weekend of not so great food choices.  The results aren't necessarily fantastic but a loss nonetheless.  Here are the results:

Starting Weight (on Weight Watchers): 209.0lbs
Tuesday's Weight: 195.2lbs
Difference: -13.8lbs

Over 8 weeks that's an average loss of almost 1.75lbs per week! Which to me is awesome!  I did step on the scale this morning (as I usually do every day) and these figures were even lower, but in keeping with my plan I shall stick with my Tuesday weigh-in results.  Hopefully what I saw today holds up or goes even lower before next Monday and I will be a very happy guy! :-)

Today I'd like to discuss something that everyone may or may not be familiar with.  It was introduced to me by my best guy pal and brother (from anutha mutha) Colmon Elridge.  It's called Hungry Girl.  Apparently this all started off as an email blast site that you could sign up to receive daily emails about weight loss tips, recipe ideas etc.  While that is still a service they offer, Hungry Girl has expanded quite extensively into a full blown website and now even recipe books and a "Supermarket Survival Guide".  Colmon got me 3 of the Hungry Girl books for Christmas to help aid me in my weight loss journey.  I've been reading through them and was happy to find that on their website they list the Weight Watchers Points Plus Values for all of their recipes featured in their books!  That makes cooking SO much easier!  All of the recipes typically yield 1 serving which is amazingly helpful because you are less likely to go back for seconds or thirds and avoid eating more than you should when you are only making 1 serving.  Now of course if you are cooking for 2 or more you can alter the ingredient quantities accordingly.  The concept is that Hungry Girl shows you how to substitute ingredients that are better for you so you can still eat great tasting food without all the regret later!

Don't let the name fool you gentlemen...Hungry Girl recipes are hearty enough for any appetite!  There is even a section dedicated to "Manly Meals"!  I found a ton of recipes that both sounded and looked delicious and I can't wait to try them out.  If you aren't familiar with Hungry Girl I highly recommend you looking into it.  Especially if you are a Weight Watcher follower, being able to cook a meal and know exactly what the point values are is invaluable and cuts down on the need to purchase so many pre-packaged meals!  I'm all about someone doing the math for me!  Even if you don't follow Weight Watchers, the Hungry Girl recipes are lower calorie, lower fat, awesome tasting recipes that you can cook for one or for a family and they are sure to help you on your way to a new you in this new year!

That's all I have today everyone.  I'm enjoying my week of rest from the gym and contemplating a day or two of light cardio...maybe some swim time? I hope you are having a great week as well!

8 Weeks Down....18 to go!!!

Well I first must apologize for my delayed update as I realize now it has been more than a couple of days since my last post.  I was so focused on wrapping up week 8 workouts in 3 days and had a jam packed weekend of activities and I forgot to find time to blog! Whoops!

Let's start off with a victory shout out....Week 8 is officially over and we are on a 1 week "Active Rest" this week!  Halleloo!  While I fully intend on resting, I have to keep up with cardio so I don't get into a slothful routine before Week 10 begins!  I can't believe how fast 8 weeks have gone by and I am excited at the progress I've made!

Throughout the past 8 weeks I've had a lot of ups and a few downs.  I've eaten really well and a few times really bad!  I've lost, had a slight gain, dropped a pants size and have definitely started to see the formation of some muscles under the fat layers! LOL.  Slowly but surely I am getting to my goal and I am grateful for those who have and continue to support me in this effort.  To those of you going through your own journey, I applaud you for taking on the challenge and offer you my full support and encouragement to achieve your goals!

Diet wise, this weekend was NOT my finest hour, I have to admit.  We had a delicious steak dinner Friday night with friends to celebrate Mac and our friend Christy's birthdays, on Saturday I gave into the Chinese temptation and Sunday was a casual get together for football and food and yes there was birthday cake involved!  I also somehow ended up with french toast and sausage before the night was over! YIKES!  I'm certain any bonus points I had before the weekend began were gone by that point and then some!

Today was officially weigh-in day, but due to my indulgence yesterday I am postponing weigh-in until tomorrow to give my body some time to filter out all the sodium it encountered this weekend! LOL.  So stay tuned for those results tomorrow!

My boss introduced me to Peanut Butter Cheerios today and let me just say....oh my stars they are DELICIOUS!  Amazingly the same point value as Honey Nut Cheerios and they make a great munching snack!  Definitely on the must try list for everyone out there in blog land!

I hope you all enjoy this beautiful day and get ready for more snow tomorrow....only in St. Louis!

Be Healthy and Be You!

Sincerely,

Keith

Sleeping beauty.....really though.....(Wednesday Recap)

I must have been BEAT from my Tuesday workout because after dinner last night I fell asleep and didn't wake up until midnight and then fell right on back to sleep! LOL.  And suprisingly I didn't have Chinese, it was pasta that did me in this time!

This unfortunate remake of Sleeping Beauty set me behind a day on workouts so now I get to cram 3 workouts into the next 3 consecutive days.  The good news about it all is that after Saturday, Workout Box has me on a 1 week "Active Rest".  At least there won't be any jumpsquats and elbow planks with leg raises! :-)

It is snowing today and you know my philosophy with the snow and working out.  Tonight would have been the night to sleep in....alas I will brave the elements and make it to the gym!

I have nothing really exciting to report today since I had an uneventful evening last night!  Stay tuned for a Thursday wrap-up!

Until then kids...

Magic Pop...It's not what you think!

Can't believe 2 days have gone by without a blog.  I really gotta get a handle on that! LOL.

Yesterday was weigh-in day and here are your results....let's dim the lights....here we go:

Starting Weight on WW: 209.0lbs
Monday's Weight: 195.6lbs
Difference: -13.6lbs

That's an average of about 1-1.5lbs per week.  May not seem like much, but a gradual weight loss is much easier to maintain and keep off than losing 30lbs in a month!  I'm 20.6lbs from my goal weight of 175lbs!  I can't wait to reach it!  Keep with me, I promise we will get there together!!

So today at the store I broke down and bought this stuff called "Magic Pop".  Some kind of Korean snack that some lady invented from brown rice and wheat.  Now I bought them because 1.  I keep seeing them in the stores with all this signage about BUY MAGIC POP and 2. Because it said 3 of them were still 0 WW points.  I'm a sucker for anything that's 0 points.  I got them home and had to try one.  Now first let me attest that they come in 3 flavors, plain, cinnamon and onion.  I got the plain.  I might has well have been eating air with a TINGE of salt.  Kind of like inhaling the air at the beach and you can taste the salt in the air.  Now I will say that had a SLIGHT crunch to them which makes them a nifty munchie killer....and you get 3 and they are pretty large in circumference.  The look like puffed up tortillas.  I kind of wanted to try the cinnamon to see if it had any more flavor but they only had plain.  I encourage you to pick up a pack and try it out.....but don't be fooled by it's looks...it's not what you think!

I have to say that I am so inspired to see so many people beginning weight loss journeys this year.  Now I know that January is the PEAK time for everyone to decide to "really do it this year" and then we end up falling off the wagon.  I feel fortunate to have began this well before the new year and not have it as part of my resolutions.  For those of you who are just beginning I applaud you and hope you stick to it!  Whatever plan or program you are following I hope it works and you can sustain!  I give you this advice....it will not be easy, you will dread it, you will try and find excuses to not do it.  Don't let that derail you!  Get up off that couch and get to it!  When you start to see real results (and it's going to take a few weeks) you will find the inner motivation to keep going and to push yourself harder!  Remember why you are doing it and what your ultimate goal is.  If you have a bad day or skip a workout, don't beat yourself up, just get back to it the next day and don't look back!  I encourage you to start a blog, a journal, a diary....some source of accountability!  It will only help you!

Also some advice.....don't think that you have to KILL yourself to get into shape!  I've seen several people start the "Insanity" workout series.  I'm guessing because of all it promises.  For me (and this is just my opinion)..anything that they have to call "Insanity" probably isn't a feasible long term option.  I've watched some of the DVD's and the people MAKING the DVD are falling out during the workout...and they are IN SHAPE!  What do you think will happen to someone who has never exercised before or is 30-50lbs overweight....make sure you're listening to your body and not OVER doing it!  Doing TOO much can hinder your progress which in turn will frustrate you and cause you to derail.  You need to ensure you are eating enough good calories as well.  Don't be one of these people who has a diet soda and a yogurt for breakfast then a 6" Subway Turkey Sandwich for lunch and raw vegetables for dinner, then kill yourself with "Insanity" and expect to see results.  What you'll end up doing is starving your body and the minute you eat something unhealthy or fattening, your body will suck it up and hold onto it!  There is a science behind the metabolism and starving your body is the WORST thing you can do!  It's OK to eat!  I've posted a couple of articles that I've found helpful and hope you do too:

http://www.livestrong.com/article/41273-calorie-deficit-weight-loss/

http://www.livestrong.com/article/69939-eat-small-meals-increase-metabolism/

Good to luck to everyone on your journey!  If you start a blog please send it to me as I'd love to follow along!  Together we will create a new US! :-)

Until then kids....

Keep the Oreos AWAY!!!!

Yesterday was a good day.  I was off all day and slept in, incidentally however I ended up missing the Yoga workshop I wanted to go to.  Whoops!  Maybe next time.  I haven't been very fond of Yoga lately so it is probably for the best anyway!

I did finish up Week 7 Day 4 at the gym and am glad to be nearly done with phase 2 of Inferno Standard.  There are a total of 6 phases each 4-5 weeks in length, so I am almost halfway done!

Last night I went bowling with some friends.  It was a good time, burned a few extra calories although I am a TERRIBLE bowler.  When I got home I decided to play some Zelda on the Wii!  While playing I thought perhaps I could enjoy an Oreo cookie or two....you know how when you have a bag of something you think you'll eat a couple and you look down and the bag is empty!  Well I didn't empty the bag but I finally had to pause my game and get up and physically put the Oreos away!  I'm not really clear how many I ate but it was more than a couple! LOL.  This was my first experience since I began of what I call 'mindless eating".  I wasn't hungry really and just wasn't paying attention to what I was doing, more wrapped up in my game than anything and I got out of control.  I was upset with myself but got over it as I didn't do it on purpose per se and there wasn't anything I could do about it after the fact.  Move forward, don't look back.  Stay away from the Oreos! LOL.

Sans the Oreos I used 54 points yesterday.  I earned 9 activity points for a weekly total of 28, my goal is 25!  I have 34 Bonus Points remaining for the week (which ends today).

I really hope my Oreo binge doesn't wreck my weigh-in tomorrow.  I might slide in some cardio later this evening just to be sure! LOL.

It's cold today, I miss the warm weather!  Winter, winter go away!!  I'll be back with a Sunday recap later!  Until then kids....

Dear Yoga DVD Makers.....(A 2 day rewind)

So I was chastised by one of my faithful followers because she felt my blog description "A daily dose of my life" was misleading as I have failed to blog every day.  First and foremost my apologies to the masses whomever you are for not keeping my end of the deal and doing a blog every single day of my life.  While initially it was my intent, life happens and I sometimes miss out on a day here and there.  I will try to do better and give you an update each day of some sort! :-)  (all in the spirit of love of course....she's a best gal pal of mine and I love her dearly.)  Thanks for the reminder to keep up and keep me motivated!!

That in mind I feel like it's time for a slight overhaul in how I blog to you each day.  After re-reading through my blogs I felt like the daily list of points and what I was eating got to be a bit redundant and unnecessary.  I'm not sure it is all that important or interesting for everyone to know what I eat everyday, so instead I will just do an overall points recap.

Thursday: Used 41 of 41 Daily Points. 0 Bonus/Activity Points Used
Friday: Used 41 of 41 Daily Points. 14 Activity Points Used, 11 Bonus Points Used

Friday I will admit I got a little indulgent and we ordered pizza for dinner and I snuck in a few Oreos for dessert!  Whoops!  Luckily I killed myself and burned nearly 300 calories doing EA Sports Active, that at least took care of the Oreos right? :-)

Now after my workout I went into the Yoga DVD and thought I'd give it a whirl again.  I went on to Flexibility and Strength.  I don't know if it's because I'm still a little fatty, a total novice to Yoga or just plain incapable, but this lady had me fuming about 5 minutes in.  How am I supposed to watch you and keep my head between my knees with my eyes closed and breathe normally 3 times!  She kept going like I just know what's coming, because I've done this routine a hundred times.  Ma'am....it's called a BEGINNERS Yoga DVD.  I'd hate to see what an advanced DVD session is like....I turned it off in frustration after a few minutes.

Tomorrow I am taking a Yoga 101 Workshop at our gym from 10-12.  I'm hoping this will be a TRUE beginners introduction to Yoga and help me get a better understanding of the poses and how to get started.  We shall see!

Dear Yoga DVD Makers.....YOU SUCK!  How do I get my money back! LOL. (I tried that once with the makers of the Dancing With the Stars dance workout DVD's and got shut down....sigh)

Looking forward to a day off tomorrow and some relaxation!  My  brother is coming to town in a few days...can't wait to see him!!!!  It's rare that my family ever makes it out this way so it will be a real treat...even if it is just for a lunch! :-)

Enjoy the beautiful spring like weather this weekend....it likely won't last!  Tomorrow will wrap up Week 7 Day 4!  One more week and then we get a week off (per schedule) can't wait!!!  Until then kids...

Last night after work while I was closing down for the day, I was setting our Otis Spunkmeyer cookies in the kitchen....they had been calling out to me ALLL day and I finally broke down and ate one.  I haven't had one since Dec. 10, so I figured it was time for my monthly fix. LOL.  It shoved me into my Activity points a bit, but it's ok, as always no regrets no guilt!  I took the night off from exercise and will wrap up day 3 of week 7 tonight, just a simple cardio workout, no worries!

Now for the funny story about food!  My boss decided for our next order of cookies she would get the S'mores cookies because she knew that she wouldn't eat them as she did not like them.  I assured her that I also WOULD NOT eat them because of my extreme dislike of S'mores anything.  Now why, you may ask, do I dislike anything S'mores related, I mean who doesn't like melted marshmallow and chocolate smooshed between two graham crackers?  Well I used to, actually very much!

When Colene and I were kids we went shopping with her mom one day to an outlet mall.  Now in this outlet mall there was a candy store, and not just a nickel candy type of candy store, we're talking homemade, over sized, over priced candy store.  So we go in to "just look."  In the very front of the display big as day is a HUGE and I mean HUGE S'mores!  The chocolate must have been an inch thick and the marshmallow probably 2 inches thick, all smacked in between two golden graham crackers!  This probably would have fed 2-3 people mind you and I had to have it!!  I don't recall but I think it cost me around $6 or so.  Colene of course, always the advocate of "you'll regret it later" told me that I shouldn't get it and I would probably get sick from eating it.  Now if you recall from the start of my blogging, I wasn't a skinny kid and I could put some food down, I wasn't about to be intimidated by a S'mores!  Naturally I bought it and ate most if not all of it.

What I failed to consider at the time is that we would be eating dinner just a few short hours from then.....a Mexican dinner.  Sure enough we go to eat at a nice Mexican restaurant, I have chips and salsa and who knows what else.  It wasn't an hour or so later that I was sicker than I had ever been.  My stomach was all kinds of cramped up and either what you went it was not going to be good.

Ever since that day I have never been able to look at a S'mores the same way.  I can't even have anything with a S'mores flavor or concept.  I LOVE graham crackers with marshmallow creme, but don't you dare add chocolate to the mix. LOL.  It was truly a lesson in over indulgence and how our eyes are almost always hungrier than our stomachs!

Keep it real out there kids....don't bite off more than you can chew....literally!  Moderation is the key in almost every aspect of life!

Why yes...yes they do fit...thank you! (Tuesday Recap)

This morning while picking out my work clothes, I decided to attempt to slip into a pair of khakis that I have not fit into for over a year!  Now I have been trying on these pants ever since I started losing weight, hoping for the day that they button!  The funny thing is, they are a size 34 and I can fit into other pants and jeans that are 34's, but we all know that no brand of clothing is the same.  So I pull them off the hanger (plastic of course because we aren't allowed to have wire hangers! LOL) slip them onto my legs and pull them up, now for the true test, to try and button WITHOUT sucking anything in or breaking a finger.....TA DA!  They fit!!  I was so excited!  I feel like my waist is finally shrinking! YAY!  Here's the recap for Tuesday:

I am glad to have started Week 7 over again because it gets me back into the weekly routine instead of running 2 weeks back to back in the same week, which was exhausting!  I need to give my Yoga DVD a try again and start doing some major stretching after my workouts, I'm slightly afraid of that lady on there however. LOL.

I was online last night and an advertisement popped up for something called "6 Week Body Makeover".  Now when I read this title I'm thinking....6 weeks to makeover your whole body?  Must be some incredible program because I'm going into week 7 on what I feel like is a pretty solid training routine and I haven't "made over" my body, improved it yes, but no a "makeover".  So I read on being the curious person that I am.  Of course it boasts that you can eat all of the wonderful foods you already love, workout less and still LOSE WEIGHT!  WOW!  So I can eat more, workout less and still TRANSFORM MY BODY?  Who knew it was so simple.  I watched the 2 minute infomercial ad they had on the website and everyone is spouting off all the weight they have lost..."I lost 42lbs.." "I lost 65lbs.." "I dropped 185lbs.."  Now you can imagine that it would be impossible if not illogical for anyone to lose 42lbs in 6 weeks, let alone 185lbs.  I'm a skeptic at heart.  When they continue in the commercial you hear the truth..."I lost 42lbs in 6 months..."  "I dropped 185lbs in under a year..."  Ok, please call me crazy but what happened to the 6 week makeover?  Is like one of those "Yo Mamma" jokes (yo mamma so dumb it takes her an hour to make minute rice)?  What am I missing here?  Well then the little fine print and voice over tells you "Make over your body in AS LITTLE as 6 weeks."  Ah.....so there is no real 6 week magic miracle.  I think one person on the site said they dropped 10lbs in 6 weeks...while that certainly is commendable it is hardly a "makeover".

As I read reviews on the program, most people do lose weight in 6 weeks but admit it is not a sustainable program as your portions are strict and you have to pretty much pre-measure and prepare your meals to stay on target.  Naturally they give you a 6 week money back guarantee that if you don't lose weight they will refund your money.  They claim the whole plan is customized to you yet you get a set of pre-recorded DVD's and pre-printed materials.  How is this customized to me?  I promise you that anyone who struggles with weight loss, if you restrict your portions and cut calories for 6 weeks you WILL lose weight, you don't need a program to spell it out for you.

This is why I love Weight Watchers.  It's a program that in it's most basic form is all about portion control, but the reason people pay for the system is to be held accountable and have a structure to abide by.  I can control portions on my own, but with no system in place to hold me accountable I'm more likely to "jump off the wagon" a lot.  Weight Watchers is fully customized because YOU decide what you eat and WHEN you eat.  Your activity is up to YOU.  I stand behind this system because I know it works, it works for me!

Just wanted to share some bits of interesting information I found while scanning the net! :-)  Be careful out there...a lot of programs will promise you the world and may even give it to you, but at what cost and is it long term?  Ask yourself these questions before you buy into anything......

Today is Week 7 Day 2, bring it on!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! (Weekend Update)

I feel like I'm on SNL for a minute! LOL.  This is Weekend Update with Keith Moore!  Sorry for the delay in posting, it was not my intention to leave you hanging for 2 days with no recap, but the New Year came and I failed to plan time for blogging!

I'll spare you the total food recap and give you a points usage recap:

Saturday: Daily Points Used: 42  Bonus Points Used: 21
Sunday: Daily Points Used: 33 Bonus Points Used: 0
Bonus Points Remaining (Week): 23

So I ended the week with 23 bonus points still outstanding, which is a good thing!  I did skimp on my Activity Goal and hit 21 instead of 25, mainly because I didn't work out Friday, Saturday or Sunday (whoops!)  I'll begin Week 7 again tonight and complete it this week.  I worked out 3 days last week and my body was pretty sore without a break, so it was nice to be able to recover a bit and start again.

It was weigh-in day today (like every Monday) and I hope you are as happy as I was with the results:

Starting Weight (WW): 209.0lbs
Today's Weight: 196.6lbs
Difference: -12.4lbs

It feels good to continue losing each week (even with a slight gain last week).  I have about 21lbs to go to reach my ultimate goal of 175lbs.  I'm not certain how that will work out as I continue to exercise I know I will likely gain some muscle mass, so really it's all about how I look.  I'll post a recent picture for you to see heading into week 8 of working out and about Week 10 of being on WW.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful New Year and that 2012 is all about you!  I know my year will be all about me!  Not in the selfish kind of way, but in a way that makes sure that I make myself a priority and that I am focusing on the things that I want to accomplish and doing all that I need to do in order to reach my goals.  This includes removing any roadblocks or negative things that might hinder me from succeeding and making sure that everything and everyone around is a source of positive energy and support.  I wish you all the happiness you can get and that your year is filled with blessings and success!  Please share with me any goals you have set regardless of their nature and let's support one another in 2012!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!
